About Internet Explorer 10
Internet Explorer is Microsoft's longtime Web browser, which debuted in 1995 as part of Microsoft Windows. Later, you could download Internet Explorer as a standalone Web browser for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Xbox 360. But in 2015 Microsoft announced that Internet Explorer 11 would be the final version and that Microsoft Edge is now the default browser for Windows 10.
As of January 2016, if you're using Windows 7, 8.1, or 10, Microsoft will no longer support or offer security updates for Internet Explorer 10 and all previous versions. (If you're on Vista or another OS, check Microsoft's Internet Explorer support lifecycle.)
Internet Explorer 11 will continue to get updates for as long as Microsoft supports the version of Windows that IE is installed on.
In Windows 10, Internet Explorer 11 is no longer the default browser. It's present in the background, because many applications still use parts of it. And you can still run Internet Explorer if you prefer.
Make Internet Explorer the default or a shortcut
To make IE the default, press the Windows key, type "Default apps," and press the Enter key. Scroll down to Web Browser and click it to open a menu of your installed Web browsers.
If you don't want Internet Explorer as your default browser but want to make it more accessible, add a shortcut to IE on your desktop. Press the Windows key, type "Internet Explorer," right-click the search result, and select Pin to Start or Pin to Taskbar.
Microsoft Edge vs. Internet Explorer
Microsoft has pegged Edge as the future of Windows Web browsing, so it's worth your while to give it a try. A few of its key features, which you won't find in IE:
