    "It does not work."

by slappybones on April 20, 2005

Pros: It can find and terminate most "firewall breakers" such as PcAudit, which is a program, by coincidence, designed by the makers of Pc internet patrol.

Cons: I purchased this product after doing some research and I found the reviews to be very good. However, this program does NOTHING to stop unknown threats and malicious activity. A 18 year old programming student at my university took about 15 minutes writing a harmless rogue program that not only beat this junk, but shut it completely down..We had a good laugh, then I remebered the $39 I spent on it. Just check Ghost security and download a small program called regtest, then try a program called advanced process termination from Diamond Security if you think I am lying.

"Not perfect, but the best in the wrong category"

    by Troll42 on April 24, 2005

Pros: I am using Patrol for the last 6 months and sincerely believe that this is a technological gem that for whatever reasons has not yet been discovered by the main stream. After reading sloppybones post I killed Patrol with Ctr-Alt-Del (my 5 years old coul do that) and it popped back asking if I want to restart it. I think that is pretty good!

Diamond Security has completely different functionality and certainly does not have any of Patrol, but I think that they would work well together. I do not understand why they call Patrol a firewall. I think in a conventional sense a free ZA is much, much better firewall. BUT! without Patrol any firewall in the hands of 99% of us is just a guessing game as far as authorization of applications is concerned. I use Patrol side by side with ZA. I do not know any program that authenticates components in real time.

Cons: I guess the only problem with Patrol is that it is slows you down in the first few minutes after installation. I wish they would install the local database of some common components, when they install the program. Or, may be that just the price to pay for real-time. I think that it should not be in a firewalls category, but not sure which place would be appropriate.
