    "The best XSLT "intellisense" available."

    November 9, 2009  |   By mrmohr

Version: oXygen XML Editor and XSLT Debugger 10.1

    Pros

World class XSLT "intellisense" or "Content Completion" as they call it. This editor SETS the standard. None of the others compare. (I saved hours during a recent 6 mo project.
Fastest transformation (faster than XML Spy and Stylus Studio)

    Cons

Not as good with large data files.
Slow opening if the XML is not properly formatted. (compared to Stylus Studio)
Back Mapping is not as sophisticated as Stylus Studio.

    Summary

Of all the XSLT editors I have tested, I like it the best. I would have given it 5 stars, but it cannot open files bigger than 50MB on my machine. Stylus Studio not only opened them, but opened them much more quickly. (oXygen has been working to give their new editor better support for large files. )

I literally saved hours of coding time all because of the sophistication of their Content Completion. I could make entire template calls typing as few as 11 characters. All syntax and punctuation being filled in for me.
Being new to XSLT last year, it was a lifesaver to help me learn the syntax as well. I highly recommend this for those new to XSLT. They go beyond prompting you for the correct syntax, they will type it all for you, including the entire block of code necessary, and then move your cursor to the next logical place for you to type. And it is right 99% of the time.
Plus it remembers so many things that you have done (in context) and presents those at the top of their prompt lists.

They are working on better large file support. Here Stylus Studio shines. I just cannot afford to buy one editor just so that I can open a large file.
To its credit, Stylus Studio does a great job at "Back Mapping", allowing you to select any piece of data in the XSLT output and point back to either, the place in the code that produced that output, or the exact piece of XML data that produced that output. oXygen can only point you back to the XML data.

    "disappointing"

    June 4, 2009  |   By grannyG59

Version: oXygen XML Editor and XSLT Debugger 10.1

    Pros

it seems to do everything i want in an xml editor. debugs, changed text size, indents, has the grid.

    Cons

when i went to buy it, it wasn't the $48 cnet is saying but pricing starts at around $350. I don't do enough xml to warrant that kind of price tag.

    Summary

I'm not sure where the mess up came from but i guess i'll be uninstalling.
