Mozilla's latest browser, Firefox 29, features the new Australis design, which adjusts the user interface, modernizing the look of tabs, menu layout, and toolbar. However, the new design also brings the pain of change: Users will have to adapt to rearrangements of core features.

Pros

New design: Firefox's new design is a bit Chrome-like, presenting menu options as large icons, similar to Chrome apps. The tabs have been cleaned up and look curvier and sleeker. Subtle animations make the Firefox experience slightly more interactive. For example, bookmarking a site triggers an animation of a star dropping into the bookmark icon.

Compatibility: Firefox 29 maintains compatibility with many older, popular extensions. The Australis interface has been around for a while for users who've been on the Beta and Aurora channels. Though many extensions are disabled by default, you'll find many old add-ons work with the new design.

Cons

Learning curve: You may be thrown off by the new UI. Things aren't where they used to be, which will likely cause problems for the millions of users who have become accustomed to a Firefox layout that hasn't changed much over a dozen versions.

Extension updates: Though many extensions work, some add-ons will likely break, especially toolbars and theme packs. Stable channel users will have to wait for newer versions of many add-ons to be rolled out in the coming months. Because Australis delivers a major visual overhaul, many themes will break and need updating to reflect the new interface.

Bottom Line

Mozilla has given its interface an impressive redesign, making Firefox a modern experience across all platforms, including mobile. Mozilla argues that the visual upgrades and interface changes will ultimately outweigh the near-term hiccups that users will face. Though Australis begins paving the way for Firefox OS, everything under the hood is still the Firefox we know and love: an open-source beast of a browser that champions customization and speedy load times.

"Don't understand why it crashes so often."

April 26, 2015  |  By funshinebear12

 |  Version: Mozilla Firefox 37.0.2

Pros

only browser that will play my Pogo Crossword Cove games. Good for game playing.

Cons

I don't understand why it crashes and runs slow. I've upgrades all video players and updated the browser. Still runs slow. Firefox, you need to work out the problems before you release new updates. Also, I don't understand what Yahoo Updater, Toolbar Updater and Yahoo Auto Updates have to do with Firefox. Please work out the bugs before you release additional updates. Also please fix the issues with Adobe and Shockwave players crashing.

Summary

I'd rate it about a C+. Outside of the slowness and players crashing, pretty good browser. Still has a long way to go before I'd rate it an A+.

"Still turned to garbage"

April 02, 2015  |  By bdsolomon

 |  Version: Mozilla Firefox 37

Pros

I forget why I liked this the cons have become so overwhelming.

Cons

Crashes often, even when I'm not at the computer, sitting with some yahoo and board pages open. I come back and it crashed.

Summary

I have lately been having nothing but trouble with firefox... also at times with flashplayer.

Since these last few updates it has been crashing even when I'm not touching the computer, with one or more open FF windows. The only possible flashplayer would be if yahoo (which was in two tabs) had some ad that showed up.

I downloaded version 37 and it's already crashed twice in the past few hours. I'm likely not going to be using it much anymore.

Very Bad Product Upgrade By FF

Summary

You can and have done a lot better. Long time users of FF deserve better. What were you thinking rolling out a product this bad and cumbersome for users.

"36.0.4 has too many glitches"

March 26, 2015  |  By R0

 |  Version: Mozilla Firefox 36.0.4

Pros

There are many plug-ins and add-ons so a person man customize.
Browser updates are frequent and most always work well.
We were kept informed with most glitches and the FAQ
This is my main browser

Cons

May I suggest having people who are experienced with the use of And coders who are well trained, to do database testing.
This is horrible.
I can't say for certain that this will send and that's very bad.
Certain sites are supposedly not cooperating with intrusion of privacy but it didn't say anything about intruding by way of browsers did it? This if Very bad.
* If you see this more than once, it's one of the glitches.
I am Hoping there is a way to uninstall this latest upgrade. If not, I'll need 3 browsers in total. IE, Firefox and a backup. I only use IE if I absolutely have to.

Summary

Please be sure to test the upgrade before it's released.

"Great except when it crashes, which is often"

March 22, 2015  |  By Phil_on_LongIsland

 |  Version: Mozilla Firefox 36.0.3

Pros

Fast, lots of features, many ways to customize

Cons

Crashes frequently, most notably when delivering search results

Summary

I've used Firefox for years, across at least five different computers with different set-ups, and the results are the same: It crashes, usually on the first search results page when you search for something. This happens using Google, and even with Yahoo, for which Firefox is supposedly optimized. That's why, for me, this browser is good only as a secondary/back-up.
