"Can extract, compress (7z), split & encrypt files..."
Version: keka 0.1.4.2
Pros
Uses 7z to compress files (faster and much smaller file size in end)
Option to encrypt filenames and password protect files as well
You're given many settings you can toggle, make them default or change your mind for different filesCons
- Have none
Summary
I was looking for an app able to compress using 7z format;
the ability to archive then compress and come out with a file that's smaller than any normal .zip before and done in half the time; sold!
with keka; you can set your defaults or change your mind from file to file
i.e.: the final format type, speed of compression, (non)splitting of your files, choice of encrypted filename and so forth...
You don't have so many different options when using another (un)archiving app (esp a free one).
Sticking with keka; this one does it all. -
"This is my default compressor/uncompressor"
Version: keka 0.1.3.1
Pros
The main reason why I got this is because of its ability to split files. So if you wanted to send someone or upload a file or files and it was too big, you could use this software to split the files into several pieces and do what you needed to do.
Cons
None at all.
Summary
You could also add a password to the compressed file if you are using .7z or .zip but I would recommend 7z as it compresses the file better. You can also encrypt filenames so without a password no one will know what type of files are inside the encrypted file.

"AWESOME! Converted a 1.33 GB .dmg to 314 MB!"
Version: keka 0.1b1
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This thing works considerably better than all other .7z archivers I've tried. Try the "Ultra" setting. The "Normal" setting is fast, but the "Ultra" setting created an archive 6% smaller in only 3% more time.
Seriously, give this FREE app a try. The only things it lacks that I would like it to have are 1) the ability to make plain old .dmg disk images, and more importantly 2) a preference to make a contextual menu item to launch it.
