I have given up on iSwipe. Still not Intel ready. Limewire is a much better alternative.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, it finally works for me."

January 03, 2007  |  By stevacon_dotmac

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I am shocked and flabbergasted, but with this version, I finally have downloaded, and, and uploaded! To multiple networks!!! Searches were quick, and found hits on multiple networks. The only glitch was gnutella didn't connect. It hits open-nap, the unsung hero of P2P networks. Edonkey, BT, etc. I only used it for 25 minutes, and it didn't crash. I set some settings, reinstalled the gift engine and restarted for good luck, and it ran. I will continue to use and explore this app. it is doing what I want right now. I have always wanted iswipe to work really bad, and now I do have to thank the developer for this successful release, excellent good show!

"It just doesn't seem to work"

November 12, 2006  |  By stevacon_dotmac

 |  Version: iSwipe 1.7.8

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
It looks like the gift engine used in this version is an old 2.6.x version, current is 2.7.7.
The concept of this software is really good. There has yet to be an all around P2P client, with a <decent> GUI, and all the networks with options to turn some off, for Mac OSX. Poisoned comes close but is getting old in the tooth. MLdonkey is doable with the web interface or Sancho as a GUI, but you have to be a geek to tweek it.
I doubt the developer of iSwipe actually used iSwipe over other options out there for P2P, but someone must be finding this software useful, unless it really is Jokeware. Again, as with previous versions I have failed to successfully download one thing with it.

"Ridiculous"

October 15, 2006  |  By tpynchon

 |  Version: iSwipe 1.7.7

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I'm amazed this software is still around. I suppose it's the only user-friendly eDonkey client being maintained, but it's so half-assed it's kind of funny. Some searches give you loads of junk, others give you nothing. You have to search in just one of four categories, but when I just did a Mac software search I got a list of pdfs and wmvs. Sorting gives you the wrong order, where 5 is bigger than 31 and 95 bytes is bigger than 678 MB. I can only run it once at a time on my Intel iMac; if I quit it, I have to restart the computer before it will run again. What's amazing is that someone would work on a piece of software for so many years, yet fail to fix a number of small problems that keep it from being something you actually want to use.

"Very disappointing"

Summary

I too have tried iSwipe over the years and it has never worked very well. It connects and shows files and starts to download, every once in a while it will get something.

Out of nostalgia and the enthusiasam that a tool would have both FT and opennap in the same package, and work, I contributed my $10 on December 4, but as of yet no registration code. Posion has threatened to add opennap to their tool for over a year, it seems like a dead project too. Recently I have been using FrostWire and it kicks ass. I haven't relied on Gnutella for years but I'm back.

"Sure looks good in the specs, but . . ."

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have successfully downloaded with this, but seldom. It has found things nothing else has, but has often given just a tantilizing hint that a program is there and nothing else. I just downloaded something, so I know it can work. Sometimes. Kind of.

Earlier versions seemed to work better. Gnutella is useless in current version, at least with my connection. Other programs have no problem.

Downloading takes patience (which I don't have). It does find things nothing else does, like I said, but then doesn't do anything with them. If it actually worked it would be a great program.

I keep wanting to send a shareware fee, but it's just not good enough.

"Me too..."

Summary

I too have tried iSwipe over the years and thought I'd give it another go. I'm pretty confident in saying I've never successfully downloaded anything with this tool. And since none of the versions are ever labeled beta, why do they expire? I won't be giving it another try.

"HIDEOUS - AVOID at ALL costs"

Open letter to Paul...

Not to start off rude, but do YOU even get your software to work? I've tried iswipe over the years and about the ONLY thing it does manage to do regularly is expire.

I was hoping there would be some possibility of bittorrent on OS9.2.2 and you claim iswipe supports this. Now aside from errors on your website, like the bittorrent port listing as 6681, when it should actually be 6881, I was still hoping there might be a chance. I have done extensive bittorrenting myself on PCs so I do have some background on the topic.

Dropping URLs/Torrents/links to torrents etc. into the Download window ONLY ever results in an item listed as Queued. Selecting it and clicking Activate of course does nothing at all - like most of the functions of iswipe.
It never starts - similar to most of my experiences with this sad program. Even local torrents that I created on a PC and then copied to my Mac (of course changing the directory locations beforehand) don't work.

What is the point of "releasing" such a useless app, over years no less - is this your idea of a joke? It's a sad one indeed, about as sad as me wasting my time to email you about it. Btw, your stupid current version (174) won't even open presently - it starts with an expired msg and automatically quits. I had to set my clock back just to get it to open. Nice job once again.

I certainly hope your day job has nothing to do with programming - if it does, please let me know for whom so I can avoid anything to do with their products.

Sincerely,

.Mike

"This time finalyy it works!"

Thanks sindbad the seafarer for the advice and for the Right 'leaason' you gave us... to never lose our 'self control'   when an freeware have even big problems!
This product have any good ideas worth to be developed and could become very loved if well functioning, even if under many point of view the 'user friendliness' could be much better and the use faster. (and even the appearance, starting by the odious brushed metal ending with the wide bar filled with useless things, icons, advertise...). But all this comes After! First it must function well, and this time it seems to be finally so!
