"Useful"

I purchased the license for this, and I generally like it. I think this is a solid foundation for what could be a great app. As I mostly purchase income stocks, it would be great if a dividend reinvestment tool could be added. -

It looks like "made in Germany" is a quality proof in software business too.
This software made a very positive evolution during the last month when it was acquired by danholt4mac. -

I am delighted to find a program that easily creates share portfolios that provides the most needed data and showing percentage total changes with graphical performance charts over various time periods. Easy to set up with an elegant interface. -

The developer has abandoned this product and customers. No version upgrades or bug fixes for 2 years now!!! This guy is has been promising a final release and and a universal binary like a typical used car salesman. ...and to add insult to injury, It turns out that they have been wasting time on some useless geo-caching all while leaving his paying customers in the dust...
Summery:
- Unsupported
- Half-Finished
- No promise of ever being finished
- Unethical developers and business people.

"VAPORWARE"

I registered version 1.2.5 of iStock. It looked nice, showed promise, and I genuinely support shareware development. Back in October 2004 there was even a Alpha version 1.3 available for download... with more features to come. That was then, and this is now: Almost 1 1/2 years later Iâ??m still waiting for the final version 1.3 candidate and the update from 1.3.12 to 1.3.13a a couple of weeks ago did make me laugh out loud. Developers charging customers for money should be serious about their apps and at least fix obvious bugs when and if they become known. This developer has done nothing of that. I have stopped waiting and reasearch myStock at the moment... the developer of that software was a dissatisfied user of iStock and has gone on to create his vision of what iStock could have been. I will wait before registering myStock though... donâ??t want to make the same mistake twice. -

"What an excellent product"

I can't believe quite how good this is. It has a VERY clean and straightforward interface - so much so that I thought at first it was a very simple application, and that it couldn't be of much value to me. How wrong I was - it offers pretty much everything I need in a basic share portfolio management tool coupled with extreme ease of use.
The only criticisms that I can think of are that it doesn't show a currency symbol (and there is no option to switch this on), so when you have shares in multiple currencies (as I do), it isn't immediately clear what currency the values are shown in, and you can't have different settings for different portfolios. Both of these would be pretty easy to remedy, but their omission shouldn't detract from what is that rare beast - an application that is hard to fault.
Don't get me wrong - there are more sophisticated applications out there that offer more technical analysis and more powerful portfolio analysis tools - but iStock does what I need 95% of the time, and does it very well. -
"Wrong values"

For some of the stocks I brought in from my portfolio, iStock reported the bid price as the last price. We can't have that! -
"Best portfolio manager"
Version: iStock 1.2.4
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This is probably the best portfolio management app for OS X in this price range, narrowly beating out Power Ticker because of Power Ticker's instability and cumbersome interface. The portfolio tracks overall holdings as well as already-sold holdings. It does not have a transaction-by-transaction ledger though, so you have to make your total holdings and avg-cost-per-share calculations separately.
There are a couple of annoying quirks in that the application doesn't gracefully handle ticker symbols that don't exist anymore, and in how it treats yahoo's feed - while part of the application downloads the correct closing data, another part seems to always be 24 hours out of date. This is a known issue with yahoo's feed, but other applications have figured out how to work around it.
Overall: a clean application that fits its price well, that nonetheless could do with another maintenance release.
