iSoftphone for Mac User Reviews

"Decent softphone with the worst customer support ever!"
Version: iSoftphone 3.0
Pros
Compact, functional.
Cons
It has a major bug that drops all calls after 36 minutes. This bug has been around for a year or two but they cannot seem to fix it. Very odd. Conference call bug prevents the feature from working. Does not currently support the G.729 codec.
Summary
It's a toss up between iSoftPhone and Zoiper Biz Communicator. Both have some annoying interface issues and bugs. I would have to say that the iSoftPhone seems like a better product but the company that publishes it is worthless. They do not respond to tech support emails. Check out their Facebook page, what a joke. They just don't seem to get it.

iSoftPhone
Summary
Appendix iSoftPhone, displays communicate at a distance of a whole new level. With it, users will not only make calls via IP-telephony, but also save the address book in OS X phone numbers, and even data on all recipients. The latter feature is particularly useful if iSoftPhone used by companies to communicate with customers. In this case, all the details of cooperation can be checked in the computer.
If a person is already working with voice over IP-based, it is only necessary to configure it to work with iSoftPhone.
To make calls, you only need an Internet connection. Calls from one computer to another - for free and communicate with subscribers of fixed and mobile payment is still required. (However, these calls can be made free of charge, if such record numbers as users of IP-telephony.)
ISoftPhone application also features an integrated Bonjour technology from Apple. It identifies other iSoftPhone users in the LAN, with whom you can communicate without the mediation communications provider IP-based.
Client iSoftPhone adds IP-based Unified Communications Cisco Unified Communications, contributing to a more productive business communication with each other and with clients.
I want to emphasize that the program iSoftPhone is the best of its kind!
Thanks to the developers for a worthy product!
Best Regards Vitaly! -
"completely lame"
Version: iSoftphone 2.8
Pros
pretty
scriptableCons
limited codecs
poor DTMF support
graphic glitches
limited SIP options
no dialplan support
lethargic tech support
not really much of a sip phone, is it?Summary
Well, I thought I had found the softphone winner. However, I soon discovered that iSoftphone really doesn't work as a softphone. It has
- no dialplan support
- almost no SIP options
- Lame DTMF support, so you either get doubled digits or no digits recognized
- lame codecs
- no support forums, or searchable content
all this at a price that is double or triple (or more) that of reliable iPhone softphones like Acrobits. It's really a sad state of affairs.
Giant waste of time and money -
"Still no Vonage compatibility"
Version: iSoftphone 2.7064
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Since no-one but I has commented on this software since Oct 2008, I must assume it has an extremely small usage base. This makes it even more ridiculous that they haven't made any attempt to respond to my comments about using it with Vonage, nor to my many direct Emails to them. It used to work extremely well with the old Vonage Softphone number, but, without the input of the iSoftphone engineers, it's impossible to figure out how to use it now with Snow Leopard, rather than as a replacement for the Vonage Companion. A shame, as it's well written software, if overpriced. -
"Fantastic SIP Phone for the Mac"
Version: iSoftphone 2.5
Pros
isoftphone is a light weight application that uses little memory when in use. It integrates with mac os address book and has a friendly user interface. Perhaps the best feature is the call quality. From my experience it has always been crystal clear.
Cons
I have nothing negative to say about the product, however the addition of a small "call voicemail button" on the user interface would be a nice touch.
Summary
I have gone through many different SIP applications for the mac and have suffered many consequent disappointments. I have found that other SIP phones either crash because they are unstable, don't work with my provider or are simply too difficult to set-up. If your suffering the same troubles as I was then its worth trying isoftphone. It is real pleasure to use and one of the only pieces of SIP software that actually works with my VOIP provider 'plusnet'. Its a vain point, but I must confess I am one to appreciate the finishing touches on a piece of software and I like the user interface to look attractive whilst remaining functional. isoftphone definitely fore-fills these criteria and simply looks and feels professional.

"Useful software"
Version: iSoftphone 2.4026
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
As before, no list of the changes in the latest version.
It's also quite expensive for what it is.
However, it has served me well for over twelve months. I have been using it successfully with a Vonage Softphone account since Vonage do not/cannot provide software which works with OSX10.5.6.
Troubleshooting Email support has been good. -
"Far from excellent"
Version: iSoftphone 2.3102
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
-> 2 seconds delay in calls,
-> Dial tones very loud (despite developers assurances for a future version, which is published by now, it's not possible to lower the dial tones volume separately from the main volume),
-> at every startup Apples firewall comes up again (not as with other applications) and if you don't allow incoming connections fast enough you won't hear the receiver of your call,
-> every(!) call breaks up after about 35 to 36 minutes,
-> and the developers mostly don't reply to eMails.
These are all quite annoying flaws. Makes the programme look like some kind of hobby project, except for the price. -
