"Excellent app, just the right size for me"

    Summary

iPodbackup is just the right size application for non intrusive backup routine, on a device which you'll mount regularly anyway (to recharge and download podcasts to your iPod).

I wrote a little howto/review and a tip about compacting of the backup images, you can read it here:

This little tool does just what it says it does, and it does it well and reliably. The information on the developer's website was very helpful when I did have questions and concerns.

    "great little script"

    June 05, 2005   |   By reeks--2008

    Version: iPodBackup 1.5.1

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
once set up, this provides me with something great: peace of mind. At the end of a work session (at home, where I sometimes do freelance work) I run the script and know I can't lose the work I have just completed - everything is there. I know there are more professional solutions, but this is low maintenance and free!

"Seems to be Fine for Lightweight Use"

    February 17, 2005   |   By RAngol

    Version: iPodBackup 1.4

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Not for non-geeks although author provides some assistance on writing rules on his site. I have more than 40GB (entire music directory excluded) in my /Users/username directory. I selectively backup parts of it to .Mac with Backup and run daily incremental backups with Retrospect and CCC.

For someone with a home directory that's relatively small I can see this working quite well. It doesn't have the ease of use of Backup in picking and choosing what to backup. For those without portable small FW drives in the 80GB range or larger FW drives on the desktop this clearly provides some serious advantages and is worth taking a look.

    "Great product, and getting better"

    Version: iPodBackup 1.4

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
The product works great and is getting easier to customize. I have an iPod Photo, and with just a little effort was able to exclude the photos in my backup, since they are already on my iPod. Works great every time!

"give the author a break - it fills a need and does..."

    February 02, 2005   |   By Paul_Christensen

    Version: iPodBackup 1.3.2

    Summary

    ...it well!
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Agreed, editing the preferences file isn't for basic user. You need to read (and understand!) the rSync man pages. Even then, I found that I needed to experiment many times before I got the rules to work as I wanted.

But - this FREE program fills a need and once you get through the setup it does it well. I used to synchronize my critical documents manually to my iPod. Now it happens automatically (with the help of PeripheralVision to auto-launch iPodBackup).

I've been using this great piece of software for 2 weeks and I cannot live without it.

Is awesome and works fine. In spanish from v1.3 and licensed under GPL is the only missed add I needed and from this version is perfect.

    "Best backup"

    December 12, 2004   |   By rmorton

    Version: iPodBackup 1.1.6

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
To me this is the best backup solution. I plug my iPod in all the time. I do not backup my system all the time. Now I use this and Do Something When http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/23675 to backup automatically when I plug my iPod in. This is a perfect combination.

"Great Application for backing up Home folder"

    October 07, 2004   |   By garrettjohnson

    Version: iPodBackup 1.1.3

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
This is really a great application. Before this I used Apple Backup and iPodBackup is much better. You don't have to be a geek to understand how to use this app. The dialog boxes explain the app very well and the files that are generated are self explanatory. I have used this product since version 1.1b4 and I would not use anything else.

I even had an issue with multiple user home folders and the developer was very kind in helping out. Communication with the developer was superb.

    "Great iPod backup solution"

    August 23, 2004   |   By christopher_mcca

    Version: iPodBackup 1.1b4

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
A simple, effective application that does precisely what I want it to: every time I connect my iPod (in conjunction with Peripheral Vision), it launches quietly, synchronizes my home folder to an encrypted disk image on my iPod, and leaves as quietly as it came, all without any interaction on my part. Although it is a fairly spare app (for instance, the only way to get detailed information on exactly what it's doing is to check the log file in ~/Library/Logs), the author does an excellent job of explaining both the development process of the application and exactly what it does on his web site. Highly recommended as a standard iPod backup solution.
