"Buyer beware: buggy and not supported."

December 29, 2010  |  By rabitz

 |  Version: iOrganize 6.2.3

Pros

Easy to use, nice interface.

Cons

Buggy, not supported, no help available.

Summary

Buggy: Notes and categories seem to disappear. The data entered (notes) remain and are accessible if you search for content of particular notes, but some notes cannot be found if you search through the categories. This is a very serious problem.
There is no help available that I've been able to find.
Not supported: Email re iOrganize sent to the developer is not answered. I have tried more than once and received no replies.
Note: This review is for version 6.2.4, but I believe my comments are correct for earlier versions as well.

"Still a great product"

September 19, 2009  |  By Akopman

 |  Version: iOrganize 6.2.3

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I simply cannot agree with all the recent negative feedback. Yes, I still use version 5.5.5 rather than 6.2.3 (I prefer the user interface slightly). However, I've tried most of the note books and organizers out there. iOrganize is simply a great VALUE with a very fast straightforward learning curve.

Not all things to all people, but that may be a plus. It has met my needs perfectly for years.

"Don't use encryption"

May 11, 2008  |  By rayjay

 |  Version: iOrganize 6.2.1

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have to agree with WonderJ. This is a very dangerous feature of iOrganize - enough to downgrade it to one-star in my opinion, though in most other respects I'd give it four.

I've been using iOrganize on an almost daily basis for several years through various versions but I'm thinking of switching to something else for just this reason. Until recently I'd not wanted to use the encryption facility: now I do, but I realised - fortunately in time - how risky it is. To encrypt a note you enter the password only once: it would be so easy to make a simple typo and not even notice. Then your note is gone for good - unless you try to work your way through all the possible typos you might have made and happen to strike it lucky.

And. as others have reported, BB doesn't respond to contact messages: one of those developers who's happy to take your money but then washes his hands of further help.

"Still No One Home!!!"

I have been using this product for over 1 year. It has worked for me pretty well...until I needed support. I have encrypted many of my notes with the same password. All the sudden no passwords work. I have e-mailed several times for support to tell be if I can get the old data from Time Machine, but no one home!!!
Don't buy this product. You can not get support

"Good yet limited"

December 12, 2005  |  By George Pytlik

 |  Version: iOrganize 6.1.5

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I really wanted to switch to iOrganize to free me from the hassle of using two different notepad applications (one of them very buggy), but there isn't quite enough compelling stuff here to warrant the switch.

For one thing, I need Palm compatibility and didn't see it in this app (unless I just missed it).

I also became concerned when it wouldn't quit, requiring a force quit under 10.4.3 on my 2.0DP G5.

I also found that it doesn't provide the same ease of capturing data as StickyBrain does, nor the power of formatting. StickyBrain users can select part of a web page in Safari and capture the formatted text directly to a new note without even having the application open. It even posts the URL at the bottom of the note automatically.

If iOrganize offered compatibility with the Palm OS it would be worth considering, even without the special formatting magic that apps like StickyBrain offer. It's better than Alepin, but only marginally, and I'm not sure what kind of recovery system it uses should the data file ever be corrupted (Alepin lets you pull all the records out as individual RTF files should that happen).

"Searching Defect... Not"

November 24, 2005  |  By roksob

 |  Version: iOrganize 6.1.3

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I commented earlier that <"Search" only locates keywords that are in Notes within the Category being searched. It does not find keywords that appear in the names of Sub-Categories, or that appear in Notes within Sub-Categories.>

I was wrong. I think that the Preferences file was corrupted. After I trashed the file, the Search function worked as it should. It can operate on a single category, or on all notes. That said, Iappologize for my mistake and revise my rating to an unqualified 5 Star.

"Good , but could be better."

November 17, 2005  |  By roksob

 |  Version: iOrganize 6.1.2

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have used iOrganize extensively for a long time and I would not want to be without it. The introduction of sub-categories in Version 6 has made it even more useful. Allowing you to group similar logs into a single document should make searching for keywords much more effective. However, the search function does not work very well. "Search" only locates keywords that are in Notes within the Category being searched. It does not find keywords that appear in the names of Sub-Categories, or that appear in Notes within Sub-Categories. Really useless. I hope that this will be fixed in a subsequent version. Two other things that would really help...
Being able to rearrange Notes or Categories in random order by dragging and dropping.
Being be able to promote or demote categories as in Mac OS Mail.

and very easy to use. Couldn't get by without it. I would only wish for a Palm conduit, then it would be perfect.

"I'm convinced"

June 24, 2004  |  By Jurno

 |  Version: iOrganizeX 5.5.0

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've been trying this product for a while now and it seems stable and reliable. I love being able highlight web text and then use services to pop it into a new note. As a writer, I find the category/note interface perfect for building long documents. Some people complain about the export function and don't like the fact that Iorganize exports all notes as a single document, but I wouldn't want it any other way. My biggest fear has been the integrity of the data -- I used to use Zwrite until I started losing portions of documents to the ether -- but except for one glitch when dropping an Iorganize document into drop box, I haven't had any problems. Comparing Iorganize to Formation seems nonsensical; they're different beasts.
