"Counter-intuitive, buggy, crashed on first use"

    June 1, 2012  |   By FesteAinoriba

    Version: iGetter 2.8.8

    Pros

    Comes with an uninstall application

    Cons

Crashed when first tried to use it
Won't allow me to change my default download folder (each URL entered links to /user/~name/downloads and has to be changed for each file)
Premium account login feature doesn't work properly
Turned on the feature to automatically pick URLs from clipboard, but application refused to do so.

    Summary

And they actually try to charge for this malfunctioning, user-unfriendly, buggy program!?!?
I've used jdownloader for years, thought I would drive iGetter around the block. Nothing in iGetter works like it should. i'mgettin' and i'mstickin' with jdownloader (which works reliably, has an extremely intuitive interface whose features actually work and it is free) .

    "iGetta? No you don't"

    February 27, 2012  |   By OnePointOfview

    Version: iGetter 2.8.8

    Pros

    None!

(I'm writing sentence this because the CNet online review software insists on a minimum of 10 characters.)

    Cons

    It does not work!

    Summary

I am a former user of SpeedDownload. Apparently, I belong to the Lost Tribe of the Intel Core Duo as I have one of the first generations of Intel based iMacs. These are 32 bit machines NOT 64 bit (See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3696 ).

After Apple issued the version 5.1.x release of Safari SpeedDownload stopped working. After several back and forth emails with Yazsoft going nowhere and I realized their tech support guy did not even understand the issues any more than I did, I tried iGetta. It doesn't work either.

I hope that somebody create a Download Manager that will work for those of us with these Intel Core Duo iMacs.

    "No good for software updates"

    April 16, 2010  |   By geckobeat

    Version: iGetter 2.8

    Pros

Can't say - Haven't tried all the features yet

    Cons

It doesn't help with Apple's very large updates. I have a slow connection that keeps breaking involved much manual reconnecting, but it seems iGetter doesn't deal with that ...Pity... am I possibly missing some or other setting?

"Fantastic! Made wifi downloading much easier!"

    December 26, 2009  |   By XttinaGarnet

    Version: iGetter 2.8

    Pros

    -Restarts dropped downloads automatically
    - Faster downloading time
    -Schedule downloads
    -Can optimize download que.
-Free (can register, would if I had $, I wish there was a donation option though, because I would like to do something)

    Cons

-A bit hard to integrate with safari, but once you find directions in igetter help, works great! Just click on any download link and it will download in igetter. Directions to do this should be more prominent though.
    -Interface design not attractive.

    Summary

Great way to speed up downloading time, particularly if you have an unreliable internet connection. Never start and stop dropped links again! Load downloads into igetter, set to start automatically or start a que and forget about it, until your downloads are ready to install!

    "FAST downloads"

    June 16, 2009  |   By Munchiniwa

    Version: iGetter 2.7.5

    Pros

I usually download at 235-300kb from my browser. I reached speeds up to 1,400kb with iGetter. What a difference! It ties in with Safari and Firefox and automatically downloads files you click on from the browser.

    Cons

Using the program without the browser is a bit confusing. Its obviously designed to be a batch processor like Compressor and is just about as confusing. I'm sure, once I get past the learning curve, it will be much easier.

    Summary

You don't realize how much you NEED faster downloads until you have iGetter. Its kind of like going from floppies to a hard drive. You were always happy with those floppies until that first time you used a hard drive.

    "Not Worth the Trouble"

    February 11, 2006  |   By tainscough

    Version: iGetter 2.4

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I do a lot of downloading, and I see no benefit in this application. Like every other download manager/accelerator I have tried, I see no difference in the speed of my downloads using a 3.0 MBPS DSL connection.

It DOES, however add a pain-in-the-ass factor. I end up with multiple copies of downloads, or downloads that never started, etc.

Restarting a stuck download from a download service is cumbersome at best--if it works at all.

Stick with the built in downloader in your browser unless you are having trouble. Save these things for use as a last resort.

    "Very Good!"

    August 18, 2005  |   By ylon

    Version: iGetter 2.4

    Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I am very happy with this software and look forward to more improvements, streamlining and optimization (including a smaller memory footprint and such). Keep up the good work! Best downloader for Mac OS X that I've used aside from wget from the shell which I use perhaps a little more often than this.
