iDefrag 2.1.1 for Mac User Reviews
-
"Great Product!"
Version: iDefrag 2.1.0
Pros
Every program loads faster.
Cons
There was a glitch with the "System Preferences" quick link in my "Dock". Quick fix was replacing it with a fresh one .
Summary
My G5 will be 10 years old in a couple of months. Over the years, I've done the basic maintenance, and it's still a solid system. I've used it as a base for a home recording studio, as well as everything else. Over the past couple years it began to slow up. I was reluctant using using a defrag program until I read reviews on iDefrag. I gave it a go and I'm sure glad I did. This thing flys just like it did when it was new! If you have an older system like mine BUY IT! You'll be glad you did.

"Boot time reduced 25%"
Version: iDefrag 2.0.5
Pros
Works as advertized.
Cons
No Mac AppStore availability
Summary
The fully compatible Mac OS X Lion version of iDefrag 2 was recently released (v2.1.0) -- which now allows boot-time defragmentation. After running iDefrag on my MacBook Pro (Core 2 Duo, Mac OS X Lion), the boot time went from 78 seconds to 58 seconds (25% improvement). Additionally, all applications seemed to start faster (observed - no metrics).
There was a lot of conficting information on the Internet -- on whether defragmentation had any value on Macs. In my experience, the improvement was well worth the price. -
"Good, solid utility. V.happy, works great on a G5 PPC."
Version: iDefrag 2.0.5
Pros
As other reviews have said - good layout, excellent options (how quickly you want to take defragging basically), very simple to use and best of all, stable.
Cons
$30 / £20+ seems quite high - should be about 2/3 of that imo.
Summary
The other positive reviews are spot-on. My G5 is a PPC running leopard but this is very stable, happily running in the background as I type. Can't see why you wouldn't like it to be honest. Didn't give it the 5 stars 'spectacular' but who would call a defrag util 'spectacular'?? :-)

"Works fine. No problems."
Version: iDefrag 2.0.5
Pros
Simple to use.
Cons
Slow but no slower than any other optimizer I've use.
-
"IDefrag does exactly what it's supposed to do."
Version: iDefrag 2.0.5
Pros
Many options, does what it's supposed to do, stable, does not cause file system problems as many others do, easy to understand interface, excellent support.
Cons
Too slow - but not slower than other optimizers (like TechTool Pro) which do not offer the options this product does. ALL optimizers are too slow! Disks have gotten a lot bigger, but not a lot faster, so this is par for the course.
Summary
I have used this product since its inception. Back "in the day" Alsoft had a great defragmenter which died with OS 9. They never resurrected it, but this came along and works beautifully. Tech support is great - and they speak REAL English - since the company is in the UK! Recommended highly if you are an anal retentive who hates file fragments, and wants them in the right place.

"Why bother"
Version: iDefrag 2.0.3
Pros
if you have used up 90% of your hard drive it is usefull
Cons
unless you have filled your drive almost to capacity there is no reason to defrag a Mac
Summary
this is the type of download that gives a user almost no use and is provided as a free or low cost download in all other instances. $30 is just ridiculous for a useless item that provides you with nothing that is not already included in a Mac.

"good idea but how about something to interact with?"
Version: iDefrag 2.0.3
Pros
sounded like a worthwhile , tool...
Cons
much ado about nothin!
Summary
can do nothing but Vie, so why bother with it?
-
"Put simply it works but always backup before using."
Version: iDefrag 2.0.2
Pros
After restart you notice a definite increase in speed. This product solved a shutdown problem I had by (I think) realigning all system files in sequence. I don't use it often but I do use it within a sequence of backups.
Cons
It takes time (overnight) and it needs to boot from an external drive (or CD/DVD) to fully defrag system files. Nothing new here though.

"Best Defrag Utility out there"
Version: iDefrag 2.0.2
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I've been on a Mac since 84-85 and iDefrag is definitely the best defrag tool I have ever used. It's fast, it's complete and it plays careful with your data which is most important. I can't believe those other defrag apps have more downloads than iDefrag. It might not be the prettiest app in the world but it works wonders on your chopped up drives. -

Cons
