"Exactly what I was looking for!"

September 08, 2009  |  By GMcD--2008

 |  Version: iCalViewer 2.1.6

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I wanted a program that could put my calendar on my desktop in a readable fashion. This program does the job quite well. Technically it's crippleware not freeware or commercial, but the part that continues to work after the trial period is all I had wanted when I searched for it. However, I was happy to register it and really appreciate the extra features that registration brings (Exposé, in particular). I never use to dos or appointments, so I made those white boxes a very highly transparent black and generally ignore them.

Highly recommended!

"Collapse the window"

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
The author could do a favor for desktops worldwide and convince me to spring for this app if they would make the window expand and collapse to fit the items that are being displayed. The last thing I need is a bunch of gronky black space taking up room on my desktop.

"I like this!"

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I used this for a few hours to check this out. Seemed strange at first. Registered after testing. I have it showing on my desktop all the time now, but I don't see it much since I always have windows open, but I do move my mouse to a corner to slide all tthe windows out of the way.

I also have it Expose with F13 or the menu bar. I changed my screensaver to activate rather soon so iCalViewer will display.

I really like how the events move across the screen. Now I'm always aware of of upcoming events. It's very nice to view events this way, and very colorful. Of course 2-clicking an event box takes you right to the event in iCal if you need all the details.

"I want the older version back..."

April 14, 2006  |  By mrsteveee1

 |  Version: iCalViewer 2.0.6

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I really like the screensaver portion of this application. The older version allowed you only choose the screensaver instead of forcing you to always have this program displayed somewhere. I use backgrounds that don't really mix well with this program when it is directly on the desktop, and I dislike having the little floating window appear all the time when it is in normal mode. All I really want is to be able to use the screensaver only. Also, I would like the menu icon to be less intrusive, i.e. match the black/white scheme most menu icons use.

"Terrific"

Summary

Initially I was sceptical about this idea, but as soon as I had all my events and to-dos displaying dynamically as backdrop on my desktop, I realised how useful this can be. There is no way I am missing or forgetting anything. And there's no need to keep iCal open, as it is a memory hog anyway, I only use it to set the events and forget about it. Great idea, good price. Excellent!

"Always on my desk"

August 25, 2003  |  By Jean Guy Nadeau

 |  Version: iCalViewer 1.0.4

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
iCal Viewer is always on my desk. It launches with login items. It is quite useful as I can see in advancehat's awaiting me. Beware though that there is some glitch with OS 9 dialog boxes (acknowledged by the developer). Sure, there is no menu icon, but you can put iCal Viewer in the dock or in another launching app or give it a hotkey. But a menu icon would be quite useful.

"eh?"

 |  Version: iCalViewer 1.0.3

Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I'm not sure I'll find much use for this, though it is interesting to play with a bit. What iCal really needs is menu bar integration like Now Up to Date & Contact have. Burnout menu doesn't cut it, and Mical won't try... This does what itsays, but takes up way to much screen space to do me much good. Also - it doesn't handle 0 duration events very well: they linger forever - This has got to be a bug. 3 stars for an interesting though not compelling or useful piece of freeware, but 1 star off for letting something as obvious as the zero duration bug to slip by.

No new features - see the readme.

(Sorry gaz, I can't fix the Classic display problem in transparent floating mode - it's an artifact of the way Classic draws its windows.)
