"Great program maintainig the greatest typesetting..."

      November 09, 2004   |   By Edwin-schemer

      Version: i-Installer 2.69.0

      Summary

      ...package: TeX

I have been using i-Installer for a few years now and must confess it keeps my teTeX installation up-to-date. Together with iTeXMac, or in xemacs with Auctex, this still easily produces the best typesetting, particul;arly if you need mathematical formulas. It also produces books with TOC, index, cross-references, etc.

      "As an installer..."

      June 09, 2004   |   By sorazup

      Version: i-Installer 2.65.2

      Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
...is a quite poor product. I don't see any claimed advantage over fink, which is a powerful package manager where all the dependencies are taken care of, and it does not poison your /usr directory with possibly conflicting installations. What if two packages install the same library with different versions? Or if a package installs a library which already is present, but with a different version? What happens when you then want to uninstall the package that introduced the conflict; is the common library removed as well?
OTHO, kudos for the maintenance of the tex libraries for the mac; Gerben is doing a very good job there.

"The Way To Keep TeX+ Up To Date"

      June 03, 2004   |   By herbs--2008

      Version: i-Installer 2.65.2

      Summary

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
      Howdy,

This program and the beautifully set-up i-packages Gerben Wierda has put together is what got me back to using TeX after several years of letting my OS 9 install of Textures was sitting idle. Add a front end---TeXShop or iTeXMac---and you've got a wonderful interface to a powerful typesetting engine.

La/TeX has gotten to the point where it is relatively easy to add graphics to documents while retaining its wonderful mathematics and text typesetting ability; nothing touches it!

The additional graphics programs avialablein i-packages (e.g., Ghostscript and ImageMagick) are well put together and install flawlessly too.

Thanks Gerben for making it so easy.

      Good Luck,
      Herb Schulz

All is in the the title: you want TeX, LaTeX, Xfig, etc on your Mac ? That's the way to go. It's simple (Fink has many qualities but not simplicity), strait forward, up-to-date

The easiest way to get a TeX installation (or Ghostscript, ImageMagick, PNG, JPEG, and a bunch of other dtp-related libraries). Good support too. Quick and easy. It's not the kind of application you need every day, but it saves you hours of work when you need to (re)install these things.

      "For TeX"

Makes it very easy to set up the guts of a TeX system for the Mac, to add selected extras, and keep it all up to date.

Just add TeXShop for the interface for editing and viweing TeX documents.
