"Best mail client of all the mail programs"
Version: eM Client 6.0.20489
Easy to use
Not a stripped-down freebie
Has excellent email module with excellent HTML insert feature
Email send/receive functions work without problems
Includes Calendar, Contacts, and Tasks (I don't use much)
Actively supported and updated
Minor stuff including some quirks
I've used this 2 weeks on a WIN XP SP3 system with no problems. I prefer this as a mail client over all the other mail clients--all of which tend to be too basic or too complicated. The one thing that bugs me is the email signature manager won't insert the signature automatically into your email body; you have to remember to insert it manually before you click SEND. I've tried all the others; this one is a keeper.
"Great Concept - Poor Performance"
Version: eM Client 6.0.20489
Low cost alternative to Microsoft's monopoly. Feature rich. Excellent integration with popular email servers both POP and IMAP. Chat capabilities. Integration with 3rd party email data brokers like Fruux for easy integration/sync with Android devices.
The application performance degrades over time and crashes every few days. The longer you leave the email client up and active, the longer it takes to search through emails, the longer it takes to even send an email. Once it crashes, it goes through a 10-minute startup process of checking data integrity. It begins working good again after that delay and then begins degrading again over a few days. I keep 13 months history in my Inbox. I theorize that a smaller size Inbox would probably improve performance to some degree. Sometimes closing the app does not restore performance because sometimes the executable remains active in the task manager list. Killing the process results in the app performing that 10-minute startup integrity check. I have reported these problems to emClient's tech support on a number of occasions. They keep releasing new versions with lots of new features, but the same old performance and reliability problems.
If you don't mind closing your client on a routine basis (daily), and occasionally waiting for the data integrity check to complete, then this is a great email client. It would be much better if the development team would actually focus exclusively on performance and reliability for a change to stabilize the product. It would easily rate 4+ stars if performance and reliability weren't a concern. Also has a nice calendar feature. I have mine synced with my Android device. Works well WITHOUT using Google as a middleman.
