    "Good Protection but slows computer!"

by Laneline on November 29, 2008

Pros: Great protection with great options!

Cons: Slows computer and freezes "log-in" to many sites. "including email-msn"

Summary: The protection and options that it offers is great, "the best FREE out there" but it's not worth it, to put up with the "slow downs" and pauses.

Avast! and NOD32 are the only virus scanners that doesn't slow down my pc much. I don't know whats wrong with your computer if it slows it down.

It's probably YOUR computer that's causing all of this. Probably really slow. Get a new system or something. I've been using this for 3.5 years and if I ever had an issue and looking for a solution, I just simply contact their FREE e-mail technical support, which I only had to do once, and that resolved the issue after I got the response. The two things that I know on my computer is that it NEVER slows down my computer and never freezes to numerous sites (including MSN and Gmail). So yea, get a new system.

Go learn something before you trash great software. Since when "computer" is an acceptable element in any equation? "Computer" may well be an indecent piece of trash, with no minimal system requirements, or with badly managed resources. You don't seem to know much about what you have in your hands. You didn't even mention what browser you have, and how it is configured. You must think that is indifferent...

Uh... surprised that an antivirus product "slows down email-msn login"? It certainly won't speed it up. That's why most security software has what are known as "exception lists", so you can specify which transactions on your computer you don't want it "slowing down". avast! 4 Home has these lists, but like other similar software, but you have to fill them in!;)

avast! 4 Home is completely configurable, as are all security programs worth their salt. If you're having problems with it slowing down start up of your system, just set it to not start until all other services have started; right-click tray icon > Program Settings... > Troubleshooting and check the box next to "Delay loading of avast! services after other system services". Granted, the English may not be completely clear, but then if you wrote free software and distributed it in the Czech Republic, how clear would your Czech be?;)

Avast is definitely worth the download. Best Antivirus I have ever tried, and I have tried almost everyone out there (AVG, Norton, Zonealarm...). Avast actually boosts my computer startup and shut down time about 10 seconds. Was your computer slow before you installed Avast?

Like others have said, your computer must be slow. It never slows my computer! AVG wreaked havoc on mine every time. Some times my computer needed reformat or more, I would get AVG back and there went the speed of a freshened computer! Now I am glad AVG got greedy, now I have Avast as a result. I have Win XP, my tech friend who recommended AVG strongly had slow Win XP also, then he got Vista and now he has no slow problem with AVG, he has a problem with their going 100% paid for program. After promoting it for so many years. Oh AVG is excellent for protection just had to schedule times you did not have much to do online.

Could be your pc that has not enough memory left from other softwares you may have installed, or your pc has viruses that are slowing the performance, Avast is lighter on systems so they is no chance it could be the problem as i use it my self and surely love it!
