Editors' Review

If you need an easy way to create disk images, it's hard to imagine an option that's easier than PowerISO. This simple program makes it a breeze to create disk images in several different formats, open existing images, and burn disk images to CDs and DVDs.

PowerISO has a straightforward interface that's easy to navigate. A set of clearly marked buttons across the top make the program's main features easily accessible. It took us just a few seconds to navigate to a handful of files we wanted to include and then save them as an ISO file, though the program also gave us the option of DAA and BIN files. PowerISO also has options for mounting and compressing existing disk images, as well as burning disk images to disks. A built-in Help file is brief but well-written. There's a configuration menu from which to select options for virtual drives and audio formats. PowerISO doesn't overwhelm with its features -- its capabilities are fairly basic -- but it gets high marks for being easy to use and providing disk image tools that meet the needs of users at all levels.

The trial version of PowerISO limits users to creating disk images of 300M or less. The program installs a desktop icon without asking but uninstalls cleanly.

Editors' note: This is a review of the trial version of PowerISO 5.4.

"Excellent product - easy to use, fast. No problems."

April 15, 2013  |  By HDsshuishfiewf

Everything works and I have no issues working with the program. No viruses, malware, Trojans, etc.

Works great. I often use it to mount programs or games I don't want to run through my CD/DVD drive (as it is loud and slower than reading/writing the info straight from my PC).

To those saying that there are "bad" things coupled with this program, well, first of all - READ the fine print on every page and be sure to opt out of any extra "features" they offer you. CCleaner, for example, also has OPTIONAL add-ons, but that doesn't make it any less amazing. As for the Trojans, etc - I have none.

None, in my opinion.

"Slow and Unintuitive"

April 08, 2013  |  By disambiguation

 |  Version: PowerISO 5.5

Easy to install and remove.

When I use a simple product for a simple operation, I expect it to function easily and simply, especially if I had to pay for it. However, in comparison with some other products I tested out, I found this one to load and function slowly. The interface had too many unnecessary gadgets and it was unintuitive. Heavy on resources, and the tech support was lacking.

I would not recommend it because it lacks some basic features I expect, and because there are free products around that perform much better.

"Will Hijack your Homepages in IE and Firefox"

NONE. It killed the download of the ISO I was going to use it for. Then the uninstaller killed it again.

Besides changing every homepage I had, it also installed a toolbar that I didn't want, even when I told the installer that I didn't want it.

Not sure why this spam was even made available on this site for download.

None. Once I realized it installed malware, I uninstalled it.

S/W installs without permission:
- 1 Trojan (MS Tech deleted my McAfee message before I could see the specifics)
- PCFix (malware)
- Wajam (malware)
- Maybe more!!!

Microsoft tech remoted into my computer to "help" with install of MS Office 2013 (never succeeded). Without asking permission and before I could stop him, he downloaded the free version from CNET as part of a workaround to the problem. Shocked I quickly searched and fortunately (or unfortuantely) found Aggie-something's (can't remember the user id)1-star review with the warning it will install crap on your system. Too late for me, but I told the MS Tech to immediately uninstall it. He insisted I should trust him, that Microsoft had strict protocalls (Ha!), and that it didn't contain malware. Regardless, told him to stop. He did and uninstalled it. McAfee was run immediately before his intervention and immediately after the install I ran it again and it found 1 Trogran. That was yesterday. Today, PCFix popped up wanting to optimize my system. There was no option to close the window without my agreeing to optimize. I killed it with Task Manager, and uninstalled it. Then I decided to see if Wajam was also installed, it was. Uninstalled that. Not happy!!!

"BEWARE...installs malware and CRAP in your system"

January 21, 2013  |  By aggiekat2004

None. There are NO PROS for this software. Beware of the malware that comes with it.

Installs "Coupon Companion," some search thing, and "Wajam" which hijacks your web browser. You do NOT realize you're installing this when you're installing this software on your computer. Which is ridiculous, because you're paying for the's not cheap.

The symptom you'll notice first is that when you do a Google search, there will be a full page of yellow "sponsored" ad boxes. You'll see the name "Wajam" on one of them. However, if you're a seasoned user, you'll not want to click anything on it for fear that it's a virus and that it will install more crap.

Also, after you've uninstalled the Chrome additions, Wajam is STILL on your computer. This is WRONG.

Stay away from this software.

Updated on Jan 21, 2013

Oh, and one of the replies to another review that was complaining about it installing "AVG Toolbar..." we OPTED OUT of AVG Toolbar...and had no indication that it was going to install "Coupon Companion" and "Wajam." If we had been presented with an option not to install those, we wouldn't have. This is a "clean" development system...running only Microsoft development software and anti-virus. It was just completely reformatted and reinstalled about a week ago. The only other software installed was this PowerISO software. So finding Wajam and Coupon Companion was a surprise, and COMPLETELY unacceptable. Wajam's response even included the suggestion that "someone else had been on the computer and downloaded their software." NO. PowerISO is installing the software with this app, without the user's knowledge or approval.
