It also unzips files faster than the other zip programs on the market. More and more downloaded files are RAR today, than in the past, and I would be lost without WinRAR.

This software is perfect. It has all you need for archiving:
. a lot of formats support
. built-in self-extracting archive support for 32 bit & 16 bit windows and DOS,
. can just right click and drag to extract to a folder
. support profiles that can be automated for backup of files
. can right click and see archive properties and version needed to extract
. can right sfx (rar, zip, cab formats) and open in winrar instead of running exe
. proper extraction of tar balls, even those in gzip - no need to extract first
. can just run an EXE right from inside the RAR without checkout or extract and everything will run, even if the EXE needs a DLL compressed in the RAR. This is the coolest! I can just run some installer without extracting.
. the price is ok
Cons
. I wish it can support integration (right click extract) even if a particular format (like ZIP) is not set to double-click-open with it
. you have to manually clean up your TEMP folder as it leaves a lot of the temp files most of the times...

Pros
- Works with RAR files better than any other program.
- Good User Interface. Very intuitive. If you figure a function should be in that menu, then it usually is.
- Do you "extract to" as much as I do?
Cons
- Not free. But what in life is, eh?
- Can't do anything else while it's extracting because it takes too much of my computer's resources. I don't know if that's the same for others, but I've got a decent desktop and extracting with cause my programs to slow and media files to stutter. However, that may just be normal and acceptable for that functionality. I just walk away for a few minutes while it's handling rar files.

Pros
Fast, powerful, simple. I have been able to compress huge images to about 10% of their original size (without any noticeable quality loss), allowing me to email them without going over usage limits or spending an eternity uploading. In a perfect world everyone would be using WinRAR.

If you are a computer novice the interface can be a bit overwhelming. Read the help file cuz it does really help explain things.
