Editors' Review

If you use more than one computer or more than one browser, you have probably experienced the frustration of not having access to a particular bookmark that you need. Fortunately, bookmarks are something that you can easily sync across machines or browsers thanks to Xmarks for Internet Explorer. This simple extension keeps your bookmarks consistent across locations, ensuring that you always have access to the sites you need.

Xmarks for Internet Explorer installs easily and then guides you through a setup wizard to create an Xmarks account if you don't already have one. Xmarks then backs up your bookmarks to the cloud, where they'll wait safely until you need them. To access them elsewhere, simply install the Xmarks add-on on another machine or browser, and sign in, and your bookmarks will be synced automatically. Because Xmarks works with Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, and Safari, it's easy to standardize your bookmarks across browsers. If you don't necessarily want all of your bookmarks synced you can create profiles that contain specific bookmarks and exclude others. You can even view open tabs remotely, a very cool feature if you left an important page open but can't remember the URL. Overall, we were quite impressed with the range of features that Xmarks offers, and we think it's a fantastic choice for anyone who uses more than one computer or just needs to sync bookmarks between different browsers.

Xmarks for Internet Explorer installs and uninstalls without issues.

"PERFECT! Exactly what I needed!"

Can now access my (literally) thousands of favorites from any browser on any computer, or on any phone. And they're always up-to-the-minute current. PLUS! It keeps them in the order I store them in!! It doesn't rearrange to strictly alphabetical!

Sounds silly, but I wish the icons for the different sites saved would show, like in IE or FF. Those icons help me more quickly discern what I'm looking for.

I found an additional trick to make my life easier! Here's how it works: I installed an add-on in FireFox called "Plain Old Favorites" that keeps IE favorites immediately and continuously sync'd with the newly installed FF Favorites (not bookmarks) and vice versa, once installed. This being installed on FF, in addition to setting up Xmarks in IE, keeps all favorites up-to-the-minute updated and accessible from anywhere, any browser, and any phone.

This set up finally allowed me to stop using IE as my default browser, and go with the much nicer FF browser as my default.

Throw in installing the FF Smart Bookmarks Bar and FF Sync to sync all my FF browsers on all of my computers, laptops and phone, and I am an extremely happy camper with continuity everywhere I go! I know it sounds a little anal, but some of us LOVE logical, continuous, SELF-MAINTAINING organization.

Xmarks has also made my husband extremely happy because now he can get to all his links on his home desktop, either from his laptop or phone, when he's on the road.

"Imported faves from Firefox, but swapped some favicons"

Worked well at importing my bookmarks from Firefox to Explorer favorites.

All favorite links worked, but most of the favicons in my Favorites Toolbar got shifted over by a couple of links.

Get it if you want to synch & swap your bookmarks/favorites between browsers, but watch out for shifting favicons.
