    "Great YouTube downloader"

    September 6, 2013  |   By Stitchintime48

    Version: aTube Catcher 3.8.1496

    Pros

I've only used it simply to download YouTube videos that I'll want to watch again in the future and don't want to take a chance on them being removed from or dropped off of YouTube. It has performed beautifully every time

    Cons

There are actually many choices of configuration that I'm not IT enough to understand how to use...so it's a little above my pay grade.

    Summary

I've used it for several years, and highly recommend

"Easy to use, captures rtmp protocol streams"

    September 1, 2013  |   By typingmonkey

    Version: aTube Catcher 3.8.1496

    Pros

This is the only program that I've used that worked for RTMP streams and I didn't encounter any adware, etc. because I opted out during install

    Cons

Not a con about this program but to address a complaint I see here all the time - People should be aware that **every single download from c net** will contain adware options during the installer. Pay attention to what you're doing and read carefully to avoid them. Some of them are tricky. Don't blame the developers.

    Summary

Simple, easy to use, effective, good job!

"Beats YTD Video Downloader Hands Down"

    August 24, 2013  |   By Doug6388

    Version: aTube Catcher 3.8.1496

    Pros

Fast, easy to install, easy learning curve.

    Cons

Attempted to install an ASK toolbar even though I specifically said NO when asked. Upon installation, immediately asked if I wanted the available update and said yes and this is when I get a toolbar. When in doubt, always look at your control panel > programs and check the recently installed software and what has been added without your permission. CNET why don't you point this out to users or are you complicent with the software publishers to putll the wool over your customers eys.

    Summary

    Shame, CNET

    "Installs rubbish despite opting out"

    August 19, 2013  |   By rushmayo

    Version: aTube Catcher 3.8.1496

    Pros

Does well on screen capture. Very simple use interface.

    Cons

No matter opting out, you still get junk

    Summary

I unchecked the boxes to prevent getting useless downloads but I still got Ask Toolbar. Download.com partners with them I know so it may be their fault. But I specifically checked and unchecked. This is pathetic.

BUT, aTube Catcher itself is nice. The ability to set the EXACT area or a specific frame to record can be very helpful. Especially if you are using one monitor to record a tutorial.

"Installs crap. No, it doesn't "ask""

    July 30, 2013  |   By yeahrightcnet123

    Version: aTube Catcher 3.8.1496

    Pros

Great software, does exactly what it promises and has for a long time. The big flashy touch-screen buttons are redundant but they can be disabled.

    Cons

aTube Catcher's installer is getting very hostile. Despite explicitly not installing the Ask adware and other software (which includes reversing the accept/decline buttons), I nonetheless ended up with the Ask toolbar, shortcuts on the desktops, and very likely other surprises.

    Summary

If you already have it, do NOT update.

    Summary

"Every Feature is a great program- as a stand alone"

    June 11, 2013  |   By Happy_Camper2

    Version: aTube Catcher 3.8.1403

    Pros

Even though the converter is ffmpeg 32 bit, it multithreads so well that if I convert 6 at a time, my Win 8 AMD A8 is using over 90% of the CPU time, and conversion from WMV to MP4 is occurring at a rate of 1 minute per minute of video. Output quality is superb, and most others take 2x to as much as 8x on the same PC and have poorer quality output.

    Cons

The manual glosses over many really useful advanced features, such as editing the profile (formatting of each of the output types. The profiles control bit depth, frame rate, width to height ratio, audio quality, almost everything can be tweaked, but it looks like you only get a few basic types. You have to experiment.

    Summary

The more free video/audio capture and convert software you try, the more you will uninstall and the more you will learn about how to use this top notch software.

"Why is CNET hyping grayware/malware-loaded apps?"

    May 24, 2013  |   By ks2problema

    Version: aTube Catcher 3.8.1403

    Pros

    I didn't DL it.

    Cons

I'm going to stop using CNET's DOWNLOAD.com because not only does the software they hype trojanized with nuisance-ware and browser-takeover-ware but now their "Secure Downloader" actively installs even more crapware on your computer.

This is the end of me and Download.com

    The bitter end.

    Summary

I'm gone. This place has become a disgrace and a malware pit.

    "it works but..."

    April 29, 2013  |   By dirtyjake9000

    Version: aTube Catcher 2.9.1347

    Pros

actually does what you want quite easily

    Cons

doesn't let you record at 48khz wav
installs loads of extra nonsense, chrome extensions, some weird game software and that's just the stuff I've found. This is when I did the custom install and deselected all the extra optional stuff i could.
This is the kind of software that means you'll need to reinstall your OS in 6 months if you keep installing software from here.

    Summary

I feel like I've let a PC rapist into my house.
