  Version: ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 8.0.015

  "Here is a necessary fix you can do yourself"

  Pros: startup time decreases the longer you use it
  full security

  Cons: 'phones home' and keeps checking registration.
  dont see any 'upgrade' from their earlier 7.4 version
  no longer has instant messaging protection or encryption

  Summary: Here is a LEGAL workaround for the license 'phone home':
  
  Enter Legaly obtained license key while your internet connection is OFF or disconnected, then do the following: (do not connect to the web until you've finished).
  
  1. Make sure you unhide hidden folders.
  
  2. Boot up in safemode
  
  3. Windows XP goto:
  C:\Windows\system32\zllictbl.dat
  right click 'properties' attributes click on 'read only' (leave hidden as is) apply > ok > re-boot
  
  Vista goto:
  C:\ProgramData\CheckPoint\ZoneAlarm\zllictbl.dat
  right click 'properties' attributes click on 'read only' (leave hidden as is) apply > ok > re-boot
  
  It stops it from regestering and checking the key online. Making the file 'read only' does not in anyway hack or change the file.

  after using the program more I realized it really sucks. Have since switched to Avira free antivirus and have not regretted it. Previously, I was a zone alarm user for over 3 years.
