"v10x is sadly, no longer viable, has become malware"
Version: ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 2012
Pros
none, defects outweigh any benefit,
i have been using (and paying) for this product since v2x
what was once fine software is now taking the "symantec" path...Cons
uninstall & clean program sloppy & incomplete
installs forcefield without permission; can not be shut off
forcefield causes major degradation in performance
will interfere with usr modems
ui very sloppy, can not get full screen windows where neededSummary
these comments only apply to version 10x
the limits of the fields prevent my full findings,
the testing of zonealarm is incredibly inadequate,
the developers and tech support are not listening to the customers
i will be sending a letter with my full findings
to the ceo and president of checkpoint,
though i have no reason to believe it will matter
other than they will not be able to deny they were told.
having already been down this road with symantec
(i was an original peter norton sw customer way back when),
i find this very disturbing as it seems as if the developers
who destroyed nav now work for checkpoint.
nonetheless,
i am now searching for new security sw,
no for the first time and probably not for the last.

"Do NOT buy Zone Alarm"
Version: ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 2012
Pros
A good product in the past.
Cons
The current version is very poor.
Summary
I have used Zone Alarm for almost two years but their latest update slowed my computer to a CRAWL! I spent almost 1.5 hours on LiveChat with two different "customer service" reps but with no resolution. Neither rep showed any interest in solving the problem. I had to tell them multiple times what version I was on, my computer OS, even my chip speed. The most suggestions they made was reset defaults and then reinstall. So 1980's.
They had a variety of excuses ranging from my version was not the latest - but their update program installed it - to they must have downloaded to me a dial-up version. Huh?
Their chat system was horrible - giving me constant erroneous canned comments and the reps saying they were not getting my responses.
The reps showed no customer service care and no technical expertise.
I asked for my money back under their advertised guarantee but they said I did not qualify.
I called my local internet provider and numerous members of that staff said they hear complaints regularly about Zone Alarm. They had me unistall Zone Alarm and install AVG Free. Now my computer is back to its old self and I am happy!
I hope to save someone else from going through my unacceptable experience. -

"Crashed after 4 days in my 64-bit system."
Version: ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 2012
Pros
When it works: really good outbound protection, easy to use with good features for both novices and advanced users; extremely quiet (so much so, I checked it a couple of times early on to make sure my programs were getting through).
Cons
After 2 or 3 days of working fine, it started developing problems (i.e.:only letting partial downloads through) and by day 4 it crashed immediately after completing a download.Had to uninstall.
Summary
My system is W7 64 bit - is this thing 64 bit compatible ? That aside, this is a really nice firewall if compatible with your system, with nice features and an easy learning curve. I really hated to see it go, but have since switched to Comodo, which I consider to be the best 64 bit free firewall available, and has been working perfectly. If ZoneAlarm truly isn't 64-bit compatible, then CheckPoint should advise potential users of that. If it's just my system, then please accept my apologies.

"Crashes computer and wipes out Microsoft windows files"
Version: ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 2012
Pros
NONE that I can think of. It looked nice
Cons
right after installing, it states it found viruses, but it was actually deleting microsoft windows files causing the computer to crash and everything having to be reinstalled! Tech support is lacking.
Summary
Stay away as Norton, McAfee and even Microsoft have way better anti-virus programs than this one!

"My favorite all-around pretection"
Version: ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 2012
Pros
I can surf anywhere I want and NEVER get infected. However, I do not click on things I know I should not take a chance with. Nothing is 100% foolproof if a fool is the one doing the surfing.
Cons
Not really a con, but it is sometimes too powerful for a couple of business programs, specifically any of the Dentrix or EasyDental dental programs.
Summary
I have been in the computer repair and security business since 1985 and recommend this to each and every client I have.
