    "Uninstall Crashes Internet Explorer!"

    May 16, 2012  |   By Joydivider

    Pros

Well the firewall seemed reasonable but the trouble started when it prompted me to try the free firewall with antivirus as well.

    Cons

It prompts you to try the free antivirus so I thought I would give it a go as it could always be uninstalled.
However on uninstalling it doesnt remove it and leaves all sorts of stuff in C and in the registry!
This caused a complete loss of interenet while I sorted it out with a back up hard disk and removing the software entries from c files and the registry.
An absolute disgrace!! I might as well have loaded malware!

    Summary

Be warned when dowloading free software. It crashed IE 9 completely when I thought had uninstalled checkpoint/zonealarm.
It seemed you couldnt actually uninstall it properly using the uninstall functions.
A days loss of the internet and a lot of messing around to beat it. Others have reported problems. Cheers Zonealarm...get your product sorted out and thanks for the trouble you caused me.

To add for the benefit of others like Miss Misanthropist (cheers) the ONLY way I could remove it fully was by changing that drive to an external and deleting the c file entry while using another operating drive.
Lucky I had a spare drive with the operating system installed that I could slot into the laptop.
The program was originally totally preventing any permission to remove it (ON MY COMPUTER!)
I removed the c program file remaining and the software entries in the registry.
It is a disgrace that zonealarm caused me major hassle and phone calls to my Isp to check my connection was ok. It totally crashed any conection to the internet. Never again with any downloads of this type!!
Microsoft security essentials (free) and firewall does me just fine Even Comodo doesnt seem free now.

Currently having the same issue. I had to use system restore, an old registry file and delete each Checkpoint and ZoneAlarm registry entry after using the old registry file to uninstall the older version of ZoneAlarm. Two hours and I'm not done yet. What a disaster! Will be switching to Commodo
