"3 years virus free!"
Version: ZoneAlarm Extreme Security 2012
Pros
- I've been virus free since downloading it (3 years now)
- Easy on system resources when NOT updating
- Simple automatic and manual antivirus updater
- Free 24-hour online customer supportCons
- Downloading updates to the software is a pain and you have to go through their website, not ZA itself.
- When ZA decides it needs to update the antivirus, it uses a significant portion of system resources (for slow computers)Summary
Although I have a couple minor issues with ZoneAlarm Extreme Security, I am very happy with it overall. I got it as a free download through my ISP, and am very pleased.
After trying many different softwares, I have found none better than ZA, although I haven't searched extensively, but then I haven't found any need to!
I haven't had a single virus problem on either of my computers since downloading ZA a few years ago. Since downloading ZA I have run other antivirus softwares to make sure there was nothing slipping past ZA, but the scans have always come up clean, which has made me trust it all the more.
The one time I needed support, I got it from the ZA online support from their website. The support is 24-7 which meant that when I wanted to contact them at 3:30 am, I was able to without any problems whatsoever!
Long story short, the minor issues that I have with ZA are entirely outweighed by the fact that I have had no trouble whatsoever with viruses of any sort. I am a very happy customer! -
"Great Suite-would be 5-Star but stability issue on some"
Version: ZoneAlarm Extreme Security 2012
Pros
High ratings from AV Comparatives ! One of the best firewalls.
Works great on our Laptops.Cons
Have issues w/ 10.XXX version Upgrade on our desktop causing system freeze moments after loading , especially after launching the browser. REVERTED back to 9.37 and works fine again
Summary
One of the Best and Most Comprehensive Protection for your system.
Apparently it is dependent upon stability issues with your computer... I have used every major AV and Firewall over the last 20 some years and AVG, Avira , Avast and Zone Alarm are all my faves Although Norton has been redeeming itself this last year.LOL -
"Total Junk; impossible to install"
Version: ZoneAlarm Extreme Security 2012
Pros
Inexpensive
Cons
Will not install on Windows Vista 64-bit
Summary
I have used Zone Alarm in the past but was extremely disappointed in this product. I could not get it to download after purchase and was told by customer support it was a problem with their stub installer. I had to delete the entire program and reinstall it from a link customer service sent me. Once I did that, I still could not install parental controls and was told by customer service that it was a problem with their stub installer and that I would have to delete the entire program and reinstall it, which is what I had to do just to get the basic installation done. It was like being on a hamster wheel with customer support. I could not make them understand that course of action would continually bring me back to the same spot and stop. I finally just cancelled and got my money back. Go with Norton 360; it might cost more but at least you can install it.

"Light and perfect."
Version: ZoneAlarm Extreme Security 2012
Pros
Very light on resources, has its own downloader scans before download, private browser for banking, the best firewall there to give you control on your software, and the OS firewall so you can tell if a program is trying to observe or change anything
Cons
Incompatibility with firefox 6 ot the toolbar and the forcefield components, but firefox still protected and scanned.
Virtual browsing makes stability problems and lost of downloads of Real Downloader, so I turned it off.Summary
I used to have ZA free firewall and Avast antivirus, when decided to get an internet suite I decided to go to these good guys who give you these good free software. So I tried them both and now I got ZA.
Reading reviews I thought that ZA is very heavy on resources, but it is false. My Computer was never that fast,
ZA don't pay money to get tested and get the publicity like others do, so there isn't so many reviews out there. But when searching you get the impression that their anti virus compenent is very good, as their excellent firewall.
Avast firewall didn't give the control that ZA does on my programs. With ZA I can decide who can connect and who can't. I always choose the manual control.
OS firewall is something that must have, control and know when programs are watching.
Bad that Virtual browsing is causing stability problems, and downloading by Real downloader becoming a nightmare when it is on. And every time I downloaded something by Real it is lost!!! So I turned it off since I'm still protected without it.
The only reason that I upgraded from internet security to extreme security is not the virtual browsing, but the private browsing, like the safe zone of Avast.
All downloads are scanned before saving on hard disk or being runned, so no need ot a download manager since ZA got it.
No link Scanner, so I got AVG link scanner, but Incompatility issue arised, but you can still run it and ignore the nagging box on each start up. But I uninstalled the AVG link scanner and got the norton web safe lite for IE9 with WOT, and for Firefox dot WOT and Bit Defender Traffic Light add on since the Norton tool is incompatible with firefox.
Incompatiblity with firefox 6, like many othr programs: Orbit downloader, Norton web safe lite, AVG linkscanner.... You cannot blame them since nobody seem to be able to follow the firefox stupid fast cycles. -

"Weak, don't bother"
Version: ZoneAlarm Extreme Security 2012
Pros
Fast, aka doesn't slow your computer
Cons
Not strong enough to withstand attacks
Summary
The thing wouldn't start when I started windows vista. At least it showed a pop up saying an important component of the software wouldn't load, therefore it wasn't working. I installed a different antivirus and the computer had a virus. Makes you wonder how good this thing is. Must be better than no antivirus, I guess. The firewall is constantly asking if the connection is public, home, or work.
