"great job recovering files from corrupted memory card"

    February 22, 2012  |   By kcasey503

    Version: Zero Assumption Recovery 9.0

    Pros

-did what it had to do with very little prompting; default settings worked great for this novice user

    -found all recoverable files

    Cons

-took my computer about three hours (for about 3 GB); not really a problem since it worked away on its own, and it could have been my computer, which has been running slowly anyway.

    Summary

I would really recommend this software, either the trial version (which I used) or the full version. I tried two other utilities - fail!

I knew that the most recent image files on the memory card would probably not be recoverable, since I visited my camera manufacturer site, and got good information about "memory card error" problems, including the fact that the photos I had recently taken, and those that were erased to make room for them, would be simply lost. Not ZAR's fault at all! Really a great download and I'm happy I tried it.

"It worked, and only took 10 minutes!"

    January 16, 2012  |   By quitokat

    Version: Zero Assumption Recovery 9.0

    Pros

I messed up my USB drive (I think I took it out before my files finished writing to it) and I followed lots of advice online to figure out what was wrong. I tried TestDisk, and it couldn't find a partition on the disk, but I couldn't figure out how to add a partition or get my files back.

My friend suggested ZAR, and I figured I had nothing to lose. I'm not a techie by any means, and I found this easy to use. It recovered my files in ten minutes, and because I only had two folders that hadn't been backed up, it was free!

I'd totally recommend this. And I'm sure I'll end up buying it, because I screw up my USBs pretty often.

    Thanks so much!

    Cons

    None. It was fantastic.

    Summary

    Absolutely brilliant!

"The only software that actually work!!"

    November 24, 2011  |   By MNike123

    Version: Zero Assumption Recovery 9.0

    Pros

The most powerful recovery software available. Out of 5 software, this is the only software that was able to recover my formatted drive.

    Cons

    Not applicable!

    Summary

I've mistakenly formatted a 2TB drive that contained 3 years of business related files.
After trying 4 different software that didn't work (and shaking like a baby...because no software was working), I have found this software.
Not only the software was easy to use, but most importantly, it recovered over 150000 files on a formatted drive in less than 4 hours.
The software also recovered the structure and all the name of the files so basically all I had to do was to copy the recovered files. Amazing software!

"I could kiss whoever made this!"

    October 31, 2011  |   By cel_21

    Version: Zero Assumption Recovery 9.0

    Pros

Free and successfully recovered 50 precious Halloween party pictures that I thought had been lost forever!

    Cons

I took away half a star because I found it a little confusing at first. While it takes some time and maybe the GUI's not terribly intuitive, it's free so I'm not gonna complain too much

    Summary

At some point while I was reviewing all these great pictures from our Halloween party on my Canon Powershot 780 IS camera, the pictures suddenly disappeared and were replaced with an ominous question mark and error message. I literally lost sleep for days trying to figure out how to get those pictures back and hounded two techie friends to help me recover the lost images. I tried program after program that either just told me the images were irrecoverable or would give me a preview with an obnoxiously huge watermark on it then say I had to buy the program to see the picture. I was about to lose hope when I found this program. When it started to show me all those wonderful pictures I thought I'd lost, I literally yelled with joy! Thank you thank you thank you to the makers of this program. I'd buy you all shots right now if I could!

"Works but takes long time depending on the size"

    October 12, 2011  |   By jjl9002

    Version: Zero Assumption Recovery 9.0

    Pros

The system works as described. Free ware. Easy to use if follow picture directions.

    Cons

I have a 16BB SD card so it took about 2 - 2.5 hrs to upload all the deleted .jpeg, .avi, .mvi files. Then had to sort through all of them to find the 29 pictures or so I needed/wanted.

    Summary

Product works as described and is free. However, be patient especially if you have large storage drive and large amount of files you recently deleted.

"best of 3 programs I tried & the only one that worked!"

    August 28, 2011  |   By cejob

    Version: Zero Assumption Recovery 9.0

    Pros

free, worked quickly and very well & recovered all my lost holiday photos from a corrupted CF card for a canon 300D

    Cons

not a great user interface, but it worked

    Summary

excellent package for recovering corrupted/deleted photos from a CF card. I would highly recommend this before spending money on expensive programs which don't work. My daughter was devastated that the holiday photos had gone- thanks to ZAP we have them all back!

"Recovered a great deal of files in a few hours time!!!"

    June 4, 2011  |   By Jimmy_Paderta

    Version: Zero Assumption Recovery 9.0

    Pros

Pretty easy to figure out! Download the free product and make sure the program will recover some of your files. If successful, go ahead and buy the license. I recovered almost all of the 97gigabytes on this 120 gigabyte drive.

    Cons

A few folders of files I will have to go through. Some of the folders just need to be renamed. Otherwise, I have a few folders full of files where I will have to reorganize and rename. This could just be a function of the hard drive damage.

    "Mediocre at best"

    August 14, 2010  |   By AlDim000

    Version: Zero Assumption Recovery 8.5

    Pros

+ It found a quite a few of my smaller files.

    Cons

    - Extremely slow scan (2 hours!), well behind any real data recovery solution, including a lot of free ones out there.
    - If I had to rely on this program alone, I would have lost all my larger files.

    Summary

I got this program to recover data from an external hard drive with a corrupted file system that could not be read by the OS. The scan took a couple of eons to complete, but the results seemed decent enough (all video files were skipped, but at least my photos would be safe), so I purchased the program in order to recover the files it found. However, soon after I found that I had actually wasted my $30. There were at least a couple of free solutions that completed their scans with BETTER results in a few seconds rather than the two hours it took ZAR and another paid application actually managed to find and recover ALL my files in no time. In other words, ZAR is a waste of money and its search functionality is very poorly implemented.

"Able to recover all data from an unreadable drive"

    July 16, 2010  |   By andy_m--2008

    Version: Zero Assumption Recovery 8.5

    Pros

Allowed me to pull data from a damaged HD. Save about 7500 pictures that would have otherwise been gone.

    Cons

You need to know enough about PC's to be able to add the damaged drive as a slave and a working HD as the master. So you'll need to be comfortable taking apart a pc and playing with CMOS and disk management.

    Summary

The software did exactly what I needed it to. I was able to recover nearly everything on the HD. I had to pay for the full version, or it would have taken forever due to the demo version's limitations, but it's a small price to pay for returning priceless pictures and data.

"Fantastic - Recaptured all the image files - for free!"

    February 8, 2010  |   By ckanofsky

    Version: Zero Assumption Recovery 8.4

    Pros

It was able to get my files off of my card successfully - uncorrupted! For free! You pay if you do many folders.... all I can say is thank you!!!!

    Cons

It was a little scary because the interface doesn't show you a windows explorer window like some of the other programs. But who cares if it works!
