It's chat interface is quite convenient. I prefer chatting here instead of on Facebook. I get automatically notified if I have new e-mails, so no need to keep on checking. I don't need to leave Facebook on for update reasons.
Cons
You can't chat with people on Facebook using this(I wish you could!). The "new e-mail" notifier is sometimes buggy, like when i already went to my e-mail, the notification is still in Y!Messenger, just sometimes though.
Summary
I really like it! I didn't bother trying other chatting services, except for that of Facebook. I've been using this for quite a while now.

During installation use custom install to avoid installing addons like yahoo toolbar.
Summary
Yahoo Messenger is light weight, easy to use, feature rich chat program. Apart from some minor issues during installation its the best chat program I have used.
