CNET Editors' review
Of all the chat clients tied to a portal, Yahoo delivers the most impressive messaging experience. Its network is intelligently integrated, its chat features are smart and intuitive, and its extras are often genuinely interesting. If you're a Yahoo user, you'll have access to all the information you store in your Yahoo profile, including your calendar, address book, and customized news. Messaging is about as straightforward as it gets, and message archives are handy, though not always easy to sift through. Though the program's animated emoticons and "IMVironments" could come across as cheesy and irrelevant, they turn out to be surprisingly winning. One great example of the integrated network supporting interesting extras is the Yahoo Photos IMVironment, which lets you share photos you have stored online right in the messaging window. Alas, ads appear in the multiuser chat window, although thankfully not in the one-to-one messaging window. The latest version of YIM offers VoIP calling to other Yahoo users and allows you to leave voice messages and check call history.Publisher's Description
From Yahoo:
Yahoo Messenger is a free service that allows you to see when friends come online and send them instant messages. It also can alert you to new e-mail in your Yahoo Mail or Yahoo Personals account, or when you have upcoming events recorded in Yahoo Calendar. Yahoo Messenger offers firewall support, a standby mode that minimizes the program until an Internet connection is made, the ability to save and print your conversations, and a tabbed interface that provides quick access to your favorite stocks, news, and sports scores.
Other features include the ability to create a chat room automatically, stock price alerts, the ability to send messages to friends (even if they're not online when you are), a Quick Compact mode that hides the Messenger tools to maximize your viewing area, Messenger Themes, and voice chat, which allows you to talk for free to anybody else on the Internet. Using a Webcam, you can see who you're chatting with or view the Webcam of any Yahoo member who has granted you access. The latest version adds Launchcast Radio, Yahoo Games, Yahoo Audibles, and stealth settings.
Note: The Download Now link will open a new window, from which Yahoo Messenger will automatically begin installing. Remain connected to the Internet to complete installation.

"Yahoo Messenger has the most features of any messenger program ever created"
Version: Yahoo Messenger 6.0
Pros
Launch Radio is a must. I become completely addicted to Yahoo IM once this was added.
Voice chat client works excellent!
Other users can "call" you (voice chat), and you have your own custom ringtones
It doenst have the annoying "WARN" feature that AIM has
It doesnt have the ads that AIM has
It isnt associated with The Microsoft Network
Cons
Nothing at all!

"Good Messenger, but AIM and MSN are better... much better."
Version: Yahoo Messenger 6.0
Pros
I like the interface and emoticons... that's pretty much it.
Cons
The reason I dislike this messenger so much is because after you install it, it puts so much other crap on your computer you have to either uninstall or leave alone-- such as the yahoo links in internet explorer, yahoo toolbar, yahoo extra tools... it's not worth it. If you really want to use yahoo, just download trillian and set up a yahoo name on that.

"Best messenger ever"
Version: Yahoo Messenger 6.0
Pros
I love this messenger, personally I think it's so much better than MSN , ICQ or AIM. It has so many features. You can listen to radio from the messenger, share photos, which is different from those display pictures in MSN, they are tooooo small, and yahoo's audibles, which is similar to MSN's winks but way better, MSN's winks are poorly designed and somewhat stupid. You can have so much fun from this messenger, I don't understand why MSN is so popular, I'm using it just because all the people I know are using it. Like MSN took over ICQ, I'm sure yahoo will take over MSN sometime soon. Oh, and one last thing, for those who really care about a program's user interface ( like me, I only use softwares that look pretty) don't let the screenshot intimidate you, there are two skins available which both are truely beautiful.

"One Of A Kind With A DownSide"
Version: Yahoo Messenger 6.0
Pros
-Free messenger, how can it get any better than that?
-Customize avatars to a reasonable viewing size!
-The ability to use a microphone and download files from another user.
-A much more nicer lay-out than the older versions, easier for new users.
-Free e-mail account.
Cons
-Poor customer service: If you send yahoo! a topic concerning what is happening to you as a user, your more than likely to never recieve a response.
-The constant threat of hackers and illegal "bootings" make it rather annoying to be in chats when these programs are used and abused on chatters.
-Lack of updates made yahoo! vunerable to hackers and illegal software activity, such as a hacker being able to lock a user's account WITHOUT administrated position/authority.
-Ads displayed at the bottom of the chats can sometimes eat a screen-load of space.
-Some services will not allow a user to use their yahoo! e-mail account for stupid reasons.
-The easy ability for hackers to break into accounts by yahoo's! lack of security protection.
