"Used to be pretty good. Now, not so much."

    May 08, 2014   |   By SrSystemsEngineer

    Version: Xojo 2013 release 2

    - Easy to learn object-oriented language.
    - Relatively powerful.
    - Ability to create cross platform applications with minimal modifications.

    - The new Xojo IDE is frustratingly BUGGY and the list of bugs just gets longer and longer.
    - No 64-bit support
    - Poor support for Windows. Primarily MAC-centric app.
    - Subscription model for licensing. Basically, you pay for more and more bugs that may never get fixed.
    - Almost every new release breaks existing some functionality.
    - Customer service is deaf to the fact that the company wasted users' licenses by breaking their long standing policy of releasing an update every 90 days. Wasting at least 6 months of upgrades.
    - The forums are contentious - especially since the change from REALStudio to Xojo.
    - So many more reasons not to buy and to stay away from Xojo. Be warned.

I've been a licensed user for almost 10 years. I used to love it when it was REALBasic and REALStudio. When they changed their name to Xojo, and changed the IDE, it became an even more frustrating, more buggy mess. I've finally converted all of my apps to other languages. Used to be a great IDE idea and framework concept. Extremely poor execution and implementation of the ideas and concepts. There appears to be no internal quality control. It's up to the users to find and FULLY document bugs. The new Xojo IDE is not ready for prime time yet. The new IDE will probably not get back to the stability of the old IDE (REALStudio) for at least another year or 2. The REALStudio IDE still had several unresolved issues when they decided to "refresh" the IDE. The point is that getting back to the point where the old IDE was is a very low bar for the new IDE. Give it a try, but beware.
