Version: Xnews 5.08
"Pseudo lockups"
Pros: Contrary to what many have said, XNews rarely locks up. I will admit that it often APPEARS to lock up, but it doesn't. There are some tasks (such as decoding files or transferring from one folder to another) that Xnews devotes all its attention to. When this is happening, Xnews won't do anything else until its done.
(Unfortunately, if you try to close it via "three finger salute" Windows will say it's unresponsive - but it's NOT locked up)
I've used this program for many years, and will continue to do so. It's simple and unbloated.
Summary: null
Updated on Apr 23, 2009I wrote that review almost 2 years ago, and I still stand by it. The only time XNews has EVER "locked up" for me was when I was either decoding a large file or was moving a lot of files from one directory to another. Under those two conditions, it wasn't locked up, it was merely unresponsive. Xnews will take complete control of the computer (causing any downloads in progress to pause) and will not relinquish control until it's completed what I've asked it to do.
This can be very annoying, but the fact remains that contrary to being "locked up" (meaning, it's stopped doing anything) it's actually very busy doing what it's been commanded to do.

I think your assertion is wrong. I have just had XNews lockup three times in as many hours. It was a lockup and not just it running slowly. I had a couple of downloads going on and they all stopped. The cursor turned to the egg timer and there it stayed until I used the task manager to kill it. This happens frequently.
