"I was starting to think I was the only one,"

    April 5, 2008  |   By chucksbox5

Version: Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Five Language Standalone 6.0 Build 6002

    Pros

It has been released full of bugs and with system component damaging possibilities. No pros at all. made no positive differences and destroyed my system three times. Yeah right, I'm hard headed!

    Cons

I tried it 2 times on new Vista Home Premium installs. The first as a so called important update, 2nd as a download from Microsoft and manual install. Both times it corrupted my system restore component to an unrecoverable disaster. No matter how I tried, it was trashed beyond recovery.

After reading pre-release notes, reviews and several blogs I only found out "it's not compatible with some hardware configurations". Hours on the phone with Dell and Microsoft brought no answers or remedies.

I reformatted again and changed my update settings to not allow this BS to install again and it's running just fine without the SP. And guess what? Microsoft is fully aware of it's deadly potential and I'm thinking, it's no longer offered to owners of these Dell computers as an "important update'. I was so angry, I was fuming. Microsoft knows better and they don't care so they can KMA!

"I hope you all had a chance to tred this first."

    April 5, 2008  |   By tomwa53

Version: Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Five Language Standalone 6.0 Build 6002

    Pros

None as it related to my system. Dell d530 Insperon Desktop. Core Duo 2.33 chip. ATI HD 2600 XT Video card Realtek Hi def Audio w/ Audigy Sound blaster . 20# Flat LCD Monitor, Running Vista Home Premium 32 bit.

    Pros: None!

    Cons

This SP was delivered to me on 3.27/2008 as an important update. I let it install.Corrupted system restore, no remedy available to repair it. RE-formatted om 3/29/2008 and downloaded the SP directly from Microsoft. Installed and immediatly, corrupted system restore, no remedy available to repair it. Re-formatted 4/1/2008, allowed it to install as an important update. Corrupted system restore again, no remedy available to repair it. Re-formatted on 4/3/2008, blocked installation. System runs great.

No, it wasn't a software conflict. Each program I installed, I manually created a system restore point. Waited 10 minutes, restored, no problems whatsoever.

    "WARNING"

    March 31, 2008  |   By nursieboop

Version: Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Five Language Standalone 6.0 Build 6002

    Pros

    nothing

    Cons

This downloaded and installed on my computer automatically because that is where I had my settings. It took over 8 hours to download and install and then did not install the 3 part correctly. My computer kept rebooting and rebooting until I finally shut it down. After restarting, I was unable to load programs, could not delete programs, could not locate Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (to remove it) because it did not install correctly and was not able to do a system restore. This completely screwed my computer up!!! I had to restore my computer back to factory settings; which of course, deleted all files and programs that I had installed. It took me many hours to get my computer back up and running and reinstalling programs I needed. I trusted this because it came from Windows...but I had the same problems with Windows XP service pack 2 on my PC. Completely screwed my computer up with that download!!!

"Fast download, easy installation, no significant performance boost"

    March 29, 2008  |   By El Cacique

Version: Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Five Language Standalone 6.0 Build 6002

    Pros

The SP1 file size is large, however, with a fast broadband connection it will take 6-8 minutes to download. The installation was simple, and does not require for you to do anything except wait for it to install. I was able to walk away and not long after, it had succesfully installed. I did this update on my Gateway GM5088 Vista Home Premium PC and on my Toshiba Laptop A135-S4527. Performance appears to have improved just a bit but not enough for me to say I'm amazed. I did encountered a few issues on my Gateway PC but none on the Toshiba laptop, which I just had reformatted its hard drive and reinstalled original software just 2 days ago.

    Cons

Since the installation of this service pack 1, my Gateway GM5088 desktop has had two system crashes (blue screen). I had not experienced any "blue screen" system crashes prior to the installation of the SP1. I also noticed that the "Search" is now missing from the "Start" menu. The Toshiba laptop, however, has been working flawlessly with this SP1. I may end up replacing my hard drive on my Gateway to a 750GB or 1TB SATA HDD to replace its original 400 GB PATA drive. I hope when I do so, that upon reinstalling VISTA then updating with SP1 will be as flawless as it has been with my Toshiba laptop.

    "The verdict is still out!"

    March 21, 2008  |   By Charles K

Version: Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Five Language Standalone 6.0 Build 6002

    Pros

I installed this service pack yesterday on a 2 day old formatted HDD with Vista Home Premium. It was worse then my 85 year old granny, slower then a snail starting. I was expecting to wait a few days anyway for the system to cache and gain it's startup and shutdown speeds back anyway. it started to pick up speed within hours of this installation but. Programs start faster too but,...................

    Cons

While it lightened the ram usage on this computer by 3%, it hammered my core duo processor which now takes a few more minutes to settle after system start. It did a horrible job on IE 7! The browser is now next to impossible to page with and much slower to open. I installed slim browser for those ocasions where an IE based browser is needed. Thus, the verdict is still out on this service pack but I'm hoping,..........................

"A big Step in the Right Direction"

    March 19, 2008  |   By kgundlach

Version: Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Five Language Standalone 6.0 Build 6002

    Pros

It will make your computer much more safer than what it originally was. It also gives you more options to choose from when you want to do for example disk defragmenter. It has a slightly faster startup time, and isn't such a memory hog.

    Cons

Can't think of anything right now.
