Version: Windows Movie Maker (Windows XP) 2.1
Pros
NONE! other than it is free
Cons
You can import your files but when you try to do ANY editing! As soon as you do the program freezes and doesn't respond. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME DOWNLOADING THIS JUNK!
Summary
I would think a Microsoft program would at least function but it doesn't. I may work for some people but I doesn't on my system (Windows Vista).

"Not available for Windows Vista and 7-But 2.6 is-"
Version: Windows Movie Maker (Windows XP) 2.1
Pros
This is a fun and very interesting software. You can make and edit your existing videos with this.
Cons
This version is not available for Windows Vista or Windows 7. As you can only get this in Windows XP service pack download. But the next version 2.6 is available for Windows Vista and Windows 7.And can be downloaded here on this site.
Summary
Sadly this version is not available for Windows Vista and Windows 7 as you can only get this in Windows XP service pack.Which the download link from this page takes you to. Which won't let you install it in Windows 7 or Windows Vista. But you can get Windows Movie Maker 2.6 which is available and works on Windows 7 here on this site. And Windows 7 users like me are better off with this, the original Windows Movie Maker, than the confusing and hard to use, Windows Live Movie Maker. So Windows 7 and Windows Vista users can use Windows Movie 2.6, which is the next version up. from this on Windows 7. And I just want to say forget Windows Live Movie Maker and stick with this. or the next version Windows Movie Maker 2.6 if you have Windows 7 or Windows Vista. Windows Movie Maker 2.6 is NOT the same as Windows Live Movie maker which is different.Andrea Borman.
Update-I have found that Windows Movie Maker 2.1 does work on Windows 7. And 2.1 is working perfectly on my Windows 7,including the record from the web cam feature. I copied the Movie Maker 2.1 program files from my Windows XP netbook to my Windows 7 netbook. And transferred the files over to my Windows 7 laptop using Microsoft Shared View. Which lets you send files from one computer to the other computer. But you must have Windows Movie Maker 2.6 installed as well.In order for the full features of 2.1 to work on windows 7. I think this is because Movie maker 2.1 uses some of 2.6's files in order to run on Windows 7 or they share the same files. But as long as you have Movie Maker 2.6 installed,Movie Maker 2.1 will work on Windows 7. So now I Windows Movie Maker 2.1 working in Windows 7,WITH the record from the web cam feature just like I have in windows XP. Great. Andrea Borman.

Updated on Jun 17, 2012Windows Movie Maker2.1 works on Windows Vista,Windows 7 and Windows 8.You just copy the Movie Maker program files from programs on C/drive on Windows XP onto your Windows Vista,Windows 7 or Windows 8 computer. And also you must have Windows Movie Maker 2.6 installed. As Movie Maker 2.1 runs off of some of the dill files of Movie Maker 2.6. But Windows Movie Maker 2.1 does work on Windows Vista, windows 7 and Windows 8. And so does the webcam feature.Andrea Borman. -
