FreeCons
No noise reduction function on videos
No possible of record full HD from webcam
No green background functionSummary
If You want to make simple and beatiful home videos then this is the right program for you. You can add some simple effects, add music/sound for your videos while you can reduce sounds of video, cut and paste different section of your video, add pics and make change video speed.

"VERY Basic"
Version: Windows Live Movie Maker 2011
Pros
Easy interface to use, except for missing timeline that others mentioned. It has a good array of video effects and pan & zoom options. MUCH easier to use than, say, a Pinnacle Studio product, but much more limited. Manipulating video is pretty easy, but not if you're only looking for video splitter software to cut commercials out- the rendering takes way too much time.
Cons
What they DON'T tell you (een in this CNET review), is that the only format you can output in is a .wmv format, which really isn't a surprise given it's a MS product.
Summary
I use this for putting together family slideshows that include music and video clips- it is a great product for that. But only if you don't mind that you only get a .wmv file!

"Totally incomprehensible"
Version: Windows Live Movie Maker 2011
Pros
Can't think of one!
Cons
Can't easily load clips... Can't find how to make titles etc, ... Can't do ANYTHING. Bring back Windows XP movie maker... It was a snap in comparison to this dog.
-
"It's not what you expect for..."
Version: Windows Live Movie Maker 2011
Pros
It's almost the same program... but...
Cons
It is NOT !!!
Summary
You don't have the timeline access so you only have to guess what to do. Guess to attach audio, guess to fade... You only need is Harry Potter and his magic wand !

"Vista was way better"
Version: Windows Live Movie Maker 2011
Pros
Can rotate video for when someone takes video in portrait mode on a digital camera.
Title editing a little easier to access.
Haven't had much trouble with it crashing like older movie makers.Cons
No timeline. I'm a simple guy, with simple needs from a video editing software. I don't need to do all that I can with adobe premier pro or other proffessional software, but I need a timeline with a section for media to be used at a leter time, like with the vista version. Sure, this would work for my aunt who just makes slideshows, but I make low budget online videos, where I need a time-line.
Trimming, increadibly hard. Sure trimming in vista wasn't perfect, but this is just horrible.
I can't really edit the audio like I could with vista, and in order for an audio file to play, I need a video, still immage, or title to be over it.
No more narating timelines. How am I supposed to voice my stop motion videos?Summary
This should be called "windows live slideshow maker," because anyone who wants to actually make a video will be unable to. I tried getting the vista version of movie maker, but it is definately not the vista movie maker I'm used to. It's more like the xp version of movie maker, and then it doesn't want to work either. I have 7 so I feel like I'm tied with no decent free available video editing software.

"Trash for editing movies"
Version: Windows Live Movie Maker 2011
Pros
It's free!
Cons
It's trash. It takes minutes to edit out a commercial from a movie capture. And even then it takes up to 90-100% of processor power *even when set on low priority.*
Summary
It's the equivalent of a toy cellphone for a toddler.
If you're doing slideshows it might work. -
"I'm in complete agreement with most - It's a DOWNGRADE!"
Version: Windows Live Movie Maker 2011
Pros
It's free - Not anything more to say than that.
Cons
As most are pointing out, I was stupified to find everything was stripped away from the original program. No Timeline, Harder to work with, etc.
Summary
Since I have Windows 7, I'm going to uninstall this junk and go back to the older XP version or find some other program that is like or better than the old XP version.

"Is this a joke?"
Version: Windows Live Movie Maker 2011
Pros
It's free.
Cons
Completely stripped all the features from the previous version. Including the timeline and the majority of effects. In what world is fewer features and options an improvement?
Summary
Imagine if the brilliant team in charge of redesigning Movie Maker were in charge at a different company. Say Lexus, for instance...
"How can we improve on last year's model?"
"I know! Lets get rid of the power windows and door locks. Then we'll take out the radio. And the seat warmers. And the auto start feature. And the AC and cruise control. All that stuff just confuses the consumers. It's too complicated. People want something simple. Basically, what I visualize is four tires, a couple of seats, a steering wheel, an engine and a frame."
"Brilliant! The customers will love it! They won't have to worry about trying to figure out all the options and features anymore, because there won't be any! Promote this man!"
Basically, this is exactly what happened to the new version of Windows Movie Maker. What a joke...
