Version: Windows Live Essentials 1.0
"In terms of Windows Live Mail client..."
Pros: Windows Live Mail is the business for me in terms of desktop email clients. Integrates easily with multiple emails (I use Gmail and Hotmail), much more so than other free alternatives and without add-ons! Has RSS and built in calendar support.
Cons: The contacts feature is a little annoying, as it constantly makes many copies of the same contacts, for me anyway. Calendar could be spruced up to support iCal formats easier, and calendar subscriptions. Searching feature can be a little buggy.
Summary: Great program, and totally free. Fully featured, including multiple email support (without having to use add-ons!), RSS, and calendar features, as well as all the normal things. Works seamlessly with Gmail too.
In my opinion, best free email client available today, hands down. I'm NOT a Microsoft lover, in fact I'll avoid if poss, but WIndows Live Mail carves the competition. The likes of Thunderbird just don't compete when I have to download endless extensions to get it to work with Hotmail. The selling point for me here is the easy integration of multiple email accounts, WITHOUT annoying add-ons or extensions. Calendar support is also good, although could be improved to allow live iCal subscriptions (this can be worked around by accessing your webmail calendars though a browser and subscribing).
Bottom line: quality little program that works well with multiple email accounts, and does so quickly and easily. Calendar support a major plus.
