    "Better than recycle bin"

    February 21, 2013  |   By Mgonz

    Version: Windows File Shredder 2.0

    Pros

Permanently deletes the file you delete, and it's very fast for a third party tool.

    Cons

Bunch of computer illiterate kids freaking out over a false positive.

"Product fine, but 2 hidden malware it came with sucked"

    January 30, 2013  |   By mozzie9598979495

    Version: Windows File Shredder 2.0

    Pros

    Product worked as advertised

    Cons

TWO ITEMS OF MALWARE CAME WITH IT. Need I say more? I ALWAYS ALWAYS look for pre-opted-in crapware whenever I get software online. I made sure I was opted out of anything but File Shredder. When it installed, I immediately got a full browser popup notice in my default browser (Firefox) that said, "Congratulations, you've installed ____). Can't remember the name of that one because I immediately uninstalled it, but it had to do with "Big Happy Emoticons." It had also deleted all my tabs I had set for home page in Firefox and removed Firefox Sync. Six days later I found other malware on my system called "SelectionLinks" and it was a buggar to uninstall. I only lost about 4 hours of work time on that one as it took multiple passes of my anti-malware software to get each piece. I had to manually remove registry entries.

    Summary

DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT INSTALL FILE SHREDDER. You might have anti-malware software that will catch the embedded malware, in which case that's great for you, but there is NASTY SOFTWARE that comes with this product and there is NO OPTION NOT TO RECEIVE IT. If your anti-malware software doesn't catch it, you're in for my experience. Don't go there.

    "MALWARE INSTALLS WITH PRODUCT!!!"

    January 15, 2013  |   By mike021A

    Version: Windows File Shredder 2.0

    Pros

Product works fine - but you get stuck with a bunch of malware

    Cons

    installs trojan virus

    Summary

Unfortunately I ignored the December 6, 2012 review By camfers. The installer does indeed download a virus. I have spent all morning trying to get rid of it. You should not download this!!!

    Updated on Jan 15, 2013

I just downloaded this on 1/15/2013. A trojan virus gets installed with the package. When you install the product, the virus starts hijacking your browser sessions. Don't download/install it!

"MALWARE DOWNLOADS WITH PRODUCT - FROM CNET DOWNLOADER"

    December 6, 2012  |   By camfers

    Version: Windows File Shredder 2.0

    Pros

Seems to work okay - haven't had time to check it all yet.

    Cons

None that I can see yet.

    Summary

The iSearch Claro Search Virus Hijacker downloads with this software - using CNET's Downloader. I stopped the install (too late) and now have to jump through numerous hoops to rid myself of this junk.

    This is unacceptable.

I don't think the problem is with the File Shredder software itself, as this has now installed from the .exe file without problems.

BTW, why, when I search for "File Shredder" does this program not appear in the results, whereas when I search for "Shredder" it does?!

    "The File-Shredder 2"

    November 18, 2012  |   By charles400

    Version: Windows File Shredder 2.0

    Pros

Well I can't speak to how effective it is in terms of stopping the FBI or the CIA or the NSA or somebody from recovering data from my disk.
But I will tell you straight-out that this little utility is very simple to use.
And it's very easy to use.
I figure that it would keep my friends and relatives from seeing stuff on my disk that I wouldn't want them to see.
I just use it on a two-pass low-level setting because I really don't have all that much to hide.
Nothing that would cause me great harm.
Two-pass takes no time at all.
It's done before you can blink an eye, even on 100 files.
    Glad I have it - File-Shredder 2
Nice little piece of equipment as far as I am concerned.

    Cons

I'm not a big enough expert to identify any cons on this item.
It's simple to use and it's easy to use and that's all I can say to you about it since I'm no expert on file-shredders.

    Summary

    Summary -
    If you're like me -
Not a whole lot to hide from anybody important -
    Use this simple & easy-to-use file-shredder utility.

"Frees MEGA Space on your Disk"

    August 16, 2012  |   By ComeToPass

    Version: Windows File Shredder 2.0

    Pros

Vanishes (overwrites) previously "deleted" data. Even your Mother can't pull up the sh*t you been lookin' at...

    Cons

I'll do an update when I see a flaw.

    Summary

When you hit delete ~ IT AIN'T REALLY DELETED. Delete deletes the reference to whatever file you THINK you deleted. "Properties." The bulk of the program/file is still there. So people use wipers such as this to hide data. I use them to free up SPACE! And this is a Jewel.

On First Run, I clicked Shred Free Disk Space and picked the Default 3-Pass module. Hit start. Shredding is a slow process with ANY cleaner. I stopped File Shredder after an Hr and 20 min when it was only 19% complete. A Reboot, and check my free space. My free space had jumped from 380.20 GB to 404.03... In an Hour. 7% increase in space. Interrupted.

    Pros

Appears to do what it says it does.

Appears to be a good free shredder. I've only used it a couple of times so far. It works fast and seemingly well.
