    "RISKY AND NO SUPPORT"

    May 29, 2011  |   By cbrklr

    Version: Windows File Shredder 2.0

    Pros

    Small size.

    Cons

Disappears my recycle bin randomly. Does not uninstall properly. Requires mystery "permission" to delete shredder file folder. NO ONLINE SUPPORT. Not worth it. Recommend you look elsewhere.

    Summary

With Windows Vista this program creates problems. The developer refuses to provide support and is therefore questionable. Download at your own risk.

    "BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!"

    April 29, 2011  |   By tony_maner

    Version: Windows File Shredder 2.0

    Pros

It does what it says it does: wipes files with no possibility of recovering them.

    Cons

Program has bugs which may cause you to lose data or MESS UP YOUR HARD DRIVE!

    Summary

This program is effective at erasing files so that it would be impossible to recover them, but it is dumb (either that or it has bugs)! I erased some duplicate files with identical hashes, but with different names, and this program erased both the originals and the duplicates--with no possibility of recovering them! I also performed a "free space wipe", after which my hard drive started giving me SMART warnings telling me to back up my files and replace my hdd because "hard drive failure was imminent!!"
Be careful what you do with it, and DON'T use it to erase duplicate files!!!

    "Insecure to use."

    April 22, 2011  |   By ThreeSides_se

    Version: Windows File Shredder 2.0

    Pros

Easy for home users and it provides enough security for home users.

    Cons

The Free space shredder using DoD doesn't erase the information it still recoverable with software like active@undelete.

    Summary

This software is enough for home user security but not for corporate use.

Pleas observe that I have only tested this running on windows 7 and that i will do more tests

    "NEED HELP!!!"

    April 12, 2011  |   By Dmayor95

    Version: Windows File Shredder 2.0

    Pros

    NEED HELP PLEASE!!!

    Cons

    NEED HELP PLEASE!!!

    Summary

I downloaded this program a few days ago, it seemed okay. i tried the 'shred free disk space' feature, i was unsure what it did. i spent 1 whole day and 11 hours waiting to completly remove 'deleted' files my hard drive disk is 640GB., using the DoD 2250-22.M Method.

The problem with this is for some odd reason the computer frooze, and i stupidly shut it down and restarted, when i rebooted the file shredder program had closed too. i soon found on my computer 232GB free of 547GB!!! i only had about 50GB used space on the HDD "C" drive, the rest on my EXTERNAL 1 TB HHD. if anybody knows how to restore my FREE SPACE ON MY HDD.
    Please let me know.
when i was deleting the files the program had completly removed all the free space on my HDD, it was returning the free space to my HDD, so it was from 524GB free space to 2GB free, then 2GB free to 232GB free

    my email is Davidmayor1995@gmail.com

    "Definitely Has Problems"

    March 4, 2011  |   By Arsis

    Version: Windows File Shredder 2.0

    Pros

Simple, easy to use and understand UI.

    Cons

receiving mssgs 'can't shred file because it's in use' when it clearly isn't.
much to easy to delete entire folders.
cannot seem to handle large files

    Summary

I have had this program in use for a little over a month now and I'm encountering too many problems. I'm not a techie at all however I am your regular everyday consumer and what I'm encountering doesn't please me a bit. For the last 2 weeks I've encountered difficulty when trying to shred 700mb or larger files; and whenever I do try the program freezes.

Also I started receiving a lot of error mssgs stating a file cannot be shredded because it's in use. Yeah. Right. Every program on my pc is closed yet there's a file in use which doesn't pertain to the main OS or startup files? I don't think so.

A 6 year old could use the program solely because of it's simplicity and I love that about it.

Basically those are main complaints and I'm currently looking for a new shredding program..

"99% effective ... but think about that."

    February 15, 2011  |   By post_monolith

    Version: Windows File Shredder 2.0

    Pros

Erased or made unuseable most every unwanted files.

    Cons

Many video and image file names recoverable, and some cookie files were recoverable.

    Summary

Using the DoD erase method, I erased the free disk space on my computer in about 2 hours. Using Undelete 360 (freeware also from download.com) I was able to check to see if my free disk space had been erased. Plenty of file names were recovered. The names of video files were recovered, but the files themselves were not replayable. Some cookie files were recovered. One of the cookie files had a search term that I had entered into the website's search engine. That's why I say it's 99% effective, but you might not want file names or cookie files hanging around. I will be trying the more time consuming 7 pass method to see if I get better results.

"Overhyped and Not Worthy of Applause"

    February 5, 2011  |   By cnsmadison

    Version: Windows File Shredder 2.0

    Pros

I can't think of any because if you think you're deleting files and then find out you can recover even one, then that's not a pro.

    Cons

Product does not let you erase Folders (vs. Files), does not allow you to drag and drop or access files in the Recycle Bin....

    Summary

I'd rather pay money and get a program that works than one that is purported to work but does not.
