I've no idea what the Pros maight be for the Codec package - if it's got Adware in it then I don't want it on my machine.

Contains Adware. Why is it on the CNET site?
Summary
CNET needs to remove every package with Adware on their site. It's ruins their reputation, and the packages that contain the Adware poison the rest of the site's downloads -

I was frustrated with my Windows Media Player for not having the codec required to play DVDs. After several hours looking for a free decoder, I stumbled upon this product my second time through download.com. Easy to download and no hassles!
Cons
No problems so far.

DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT!!! IT CONTAINS MALWARE!!!
My Internet Explorer and other programs became infected when I downloaded and used it. I had to get rid of it only hours after I downloaded it. My Mozilla was still ok and had to use it to download the programs to clean up my computer.
CNET, CAN YOU PLEASE GET RID OF THIS PROGRAM? -

A very universal set that installs easily. Overall I am most impressed with how easy it integrates into the system. Quickly eliminates the need for multiple media players. Highly recommended for newer, or inexperienced users.
Cons
I would recommend the ability to "turn off" the auto update on the install.

Running latest v. on Win XP, & on Vista. I have not used all of the tools in this, but everything I've asked it to do, it did very well. GET IT, WORKS GREAT!!
Cons
Not being a media player expert, I sometimes don't quite what I'm doing. The interface is not as intuitive for the novice as it might be, but even so, the results were always without fault, and involved a minimum of hassle on my part.
Summary
Win Media player in new machine would not work w/o something like this. I didn't really know what I needed, but found this via Cnet. Free, problem solved. I could use better/more tutorials, or include a smart 12 yr. old, but even I' have always been able to figure it out. Great problem solver

I use this on all new computer installs. When clients buy a new computer and want the bloatware removed I reinstall windows and then install this and it works great. You do not have to install any other DVD decoders.
Cons
I can not find any that the normal person wouldfind as a con. It works with virtually everything.
Summary
If you want to be able to play all files with the built in media player in windows this is the codec pack to get, I used to use k-lite but it seems to large and combersome to install.

a hoel bunch of formats for your video, fast an a friendly user website to download extras, a great extendion for your media player

it doesnt have every format, its up there with VLC an real but i still use real cz of the wide range of formats it can play

this is a great extra for your windows media player, if your downloading mass amounts of vidz like i am, keep in mind, it wont paly them all

Plays more files than Windows Media Player and uploads them faster.
Cons
Doesn't play mov files so I recommend Kantaris which plays everything including that and has excellent performance too. Also the controls like filters etc, don't come with instructions.
Summary
It plays better than Windows Media Player but not better than Kantaris which is also free and plays mov files as well. Media Player Classic is a great program just I'd like more instruction on how to use some of its controls and options.
