"Starter SI, Others NO!!~!"
My netbook purrs like a kitten, even running World of Warcraft (not recommended on a 10.1" screen but a real test of the OS). And it is fully XP compatible. Main reason I bought the computer (Acer, 1 GH Atom, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB HD) was to run XP apps.
Friends who invested an additional $45 to get the upgrade to Professional have found their machines sluggish. And, in the words of Thomas Wolfe "You can't go home again." -- there is no uninstall.
When will MS learn that less is more when you do not want unused features hogging your memory. For that matter, when will MS make Win 7 Starter available so I can replace Vista on my desktop and two (2) laptops?"are Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate, although Starter will also be available to consumers. Sorry charlie but the only way to get Starter is to buy a netbook computer and NOT buy the "Upgrade" which will downgrade the performance of your machine. Users of Vista or XP are only able to but the bloated versions.
Hopefully, Microsoft will wake up and sell an upgrade for Vista that will enable Starter to be used on other machines without the Ultimate Garbage (GIGO).
