    "Avoid: Adware !"

    January 10, 2011  |   By William_Berzoff

    Pros

    None to mention.

    Cons

AVOID : Stardock uses extremely agressive marketing methods. If you want to use any of their products you must first install the Impulse program. Impulse is only ment to get you to buy more software.

    Summary

AVOID : Stardock uses extremely agressive marketing methods. If you want to use any of their products you must first install the Impulse program. Impulse is only ment to get you to buy more software. Impulse is a resource hog, embeds itself in your system startup, and connects every day to their website to update itself with the most current advertisements from Stardock. On top of all that Impulse installs itself in the same folder as OpenOffice.org, an open source (= freeware) office suite. This makes removal of Impulse a precarious endeavor since you may accidentally harm your OpenOffice installation at the same time. After de-installation of Impulse there were no less than 354 registry keys, 463 values and 18 folders left that I had to remove manually with Revo Uninstaller. At the end I felt like someone qualified for neuro surgery...
Because of all the facts above I can only draw the conclusion that Stardocks Impulse program qualifies as an advanced malware application !
