"Forget it does not work on ANY version of Windows-"
Pros
None.I tried it on both Windows XP and Windows 7 and it crashed with an error message from Windows when I tried to play videos.Error message from Windows on both Windows XP and windows 7 was"Winamp has had to close.Send error report, don't send."
Cons
Just about everything. It tries to install unwanted toolbars including a registry cleaner which I declined and tries to change your homepage. The media player itself is the ugliest media player I have ever seen. It does not play videos and is nothing like Windows Media Player,VLC player and the other players I have used. Not very user friendly either and even after I uninstaled it leaves a lot of files behind, which I deleted.
Summary
Well I think I have said it all. This is the worst media player I have ever tried. It does not work on any version of Windows it crashes. So I uninstalled it. If you are looking for an alternative to Windows Media player use Gom player or Mirro or Media Player Classic the old Zip file install version(not the Home Cinema version.)At least they work and you know where you are with them. CORRECTION-the version of Winamp I tried on Windows XP and Windows 7 was WINAMP LITE-which is different from the full version.
Updated on May 23, 2012
This time I tried the full version and it is very good as an audio player. It has lots of visualisations not unlike that of WMP9 which as you know, you do not get on WMP11 or WMP12. And of course on Windows 7,Windows Vista and Windows 8,WMP 11 or WMP 12 is your only option as you cannot run WMP9 in anything but Windows XP.So I tried the full version of Winamp on Windows Vista,Windows 7 and Windows 8 and it is great for audio files. You get very nice visualisations like on WMP9. But there is still a problem with the video files. Winamp only plays WMV video files not AVI or FLV.So if you want a good audio player with visualisations,Winamp is the right choice. But you still need to use another media player to play most video files as Winamp only plays WMV video files. The good news is that Winamp works perfect on Windows 8.
Updated on May 23, 2012Well Winamp does work on Windows 8,which is good news. As well as all other versions of Windows. But I see it more as an audio player than a video player. As it plays all audio files but very few video file formats. But you have your other media players for that. But if you want an audio player with visualisations like that of WMP 9 and earlier versions of WMP.Which you don't get on WMP 11 or 12 and also most other media players don't have visualisations. Then Winamp is for you.
Updated on May 30, 2012UPDATE- I have just installed updates for WMP11 on Windows XP,which I have just upgraded to from WMP9. And as a result Winamp is no longer working properly. It crashes in the middle of playing a video or audio file. So I have had to now uninstall Winamp. And on Windows 7 I have undergone some media updates from Windows update and I have the same problem. It seems that updates for Windows Media Center or media updates clashes with Winamp. Which is not good, this indicates that there are bugs in Winamp. So it is not a very stable media player. So it looks like I will have to go back to WMP or VLC player.Andrea Borman.

Thanks for the update with the correction! Very much appreciated. It sounds like a really good player. For MP3's it sounds perfect. It's a shame about not playing AVI and other video files-I find VLC is the best on those-my preference anyway! Thanks again, your review has helped make up my mind!
