Version: Winamp 5.21
Pros: Its free.
It supports both audio files and video files.
The community is huge and thus there are thousands of awesome plugins and codecs for WinAMP. You can play almost any media file in it, even Unreal Tournament UMX files (with the proper codec).
Comes with cd burning and cd ripping capabilities, as well as MP3->WAV capabilities.
Its small and lightweight.
Comes in Light and Full versions.
Under pressure from Windows Media Player 8 and iTunes, WinAMP 5 comes with a fully capable media library...and a good one at that.
With ml_iPod, you can use WinAMP with your iPod, if you have one.
Cons: CD burning is set to 1x or 2x (can't recall) unless you buy WinAMP pro. This isnt a big deal considering there are tons of freeware cd burners available, like Windows Media Player for example...or even Windows XP.
I prefer Windows Media Player for playing videos...I like WMP's interface better. I dont like WinAMP's video controls.
I dont seem to find much of a difference or a great benefit between one equalizer setting and the next. I would suggest the plugin Enhancer 0.17 instead.

Version: Winamp 5.24
Pros: I've been using Wimamp for quite a long time now, and I think its safe to say that its one of the best media players out there. First, its free (except the pro version) and supports a lot of audio and video formats. The media library gives some really interesting options and statistics. Besides searching for media, you can also clean up your library from time to time to remove deleted entries. And the playlist absolutely rocks. Its search feature has an enqueue option which is a lifeline for music lovers. The keyboard shortcuts are pretty neat and logical. Since its so popular, it has a huge collection of elegant skins and useful plugins. Plus you have a great internet radio feature, and more often than not, you'll find decent songs being played.
Cons: Its getting heavier on the system with every version, but its still decently lightwieght. Its not a recommended option as a video player, though it supports a large number of video formats. Some features are only available in the pro version which is not a freeware.

Version: Winamp 5.52
"THE best freeware audio player for windows"
Pros: Like any other version, Winamp always convinces me.
Small, handy but functional interface, customizable (skins), various functions, menus, key-shortcuts, playlist functions, shoutcast Online-Radio full supported!!!
Great!
Cons: I miss the option, where I can set the lightning bolt to "library" or set it to whatever it was before.
This I miss compared to 5.3x
