"How to separate the product from the producer?"
Pros
The software can unzip files and is easy to use.
Cons
All I want is to occasionally unzip a file - occasionally, as in two or three times a year. The cost of the product is way too much for that small amount of use.
Summary
WinZip used to offer an unzipping app for free but charge for the full application that included the zipping capability. A lot like Adobe does with its reader. Seemed to me that made a lot of sense. Now they only offer a 30-day trial then you have to buy the full product even if you only need the unzip function. My rating would be five stars for the functionality of what I used, but 0-1 stars to the company for their hard line, no-free-lunch policy. Fortunately, there are other folks out there who cater to the little people and our little needs. :)

Ok so you don't need Winzip at all then. "Microsoft has included built-in zip support (under the name "compressed folders") in versions of Microsoft Windows since 1998. Apple has included built-in zip support in Mac OS X 10.3 (via BOMArchiveHelper, now Archive Utility) and later, along with other compression formats."
