    "Not the best"

    November 6, 2005  |   By akasp

    Version: WinZip 9.0 SR-1

    Pros

This program is NOT the best in my oppinion. The WinRAR is better.

    Cons

I don't like it, and the total commander has got a zip program too, and it's unnecessary. The winrar is better.

"An essential software for every Desktop"

    October 24, 2005  |   By oogle

    Version: WinZip 9.0 SR-1

    Pros

Downloading and unzipping files is like a breeze, and with many years of improving their product, this is an excellent software every user must have on their Desktop.

    Cons

I would rather use their version without Google's bundle, unless, of course, that is exactly what I want.

    "It's Great!!!"

    October 21, 2005  |   By LaurieA

    Version: WinZip 9.0 SR-1

    Pros

I started using this software on advice of a friend, now that I have it, I wish I would have found this product a long time ago.I have used this because I want to back up my hard drive of the things that are precious to me. I had problems with Nero making my files into video files, but with Winzip, after I make my video files into winzip files and use the Nero fuction of making a data disk, It does what I want it to. For example, I put a video file I had that was 220MB into a winzip file, burnt it onto a CDR and then put it onto another computer. It took winzip all of less than 2 minutes to extract the file onto the other computer after i had put it into the other computer's CD Rom. I highly suggest that this product is worth a try and I don't think that you will be disappointed with it.

    Cons

    I don't have any

"OK but the author is greedy"

    October 13, 2005  |   By srs2

    Version: WinZip 9.0 SR-1

    Pros

Attractive interface. It's not as easy to use as it could be, but it feels solid and authoritative.

    Cons

Don't buy this product. The author is intentionally holding back the progress of file compression in order to maintain WinZip's market share. It would be easy for him to add more compression options, which would enable WinZip users to handle files in more (and often better) formats like 7z, ACE, and RAR. But he doesn't want to increase the popularity of these formats because a lot of people associate "ZIP" with WinZip. Everyone has a right to make a profit, but since WinZip is so widespread he would be doing users a service to add more support options. It's embarrassing how few formats this program supports even in the upcoming version TEN.

After a little research, these other alternatives might be a good choice. Nearly all of them support FAR more formats than the stone age WinZip program.

IZArc, ZIP Reader, TUGZip, ZipZag, StuffIt Expander, 7-Zip, FreeZip, ZipMagic, WinRAR, WinAce, PKZIP, ZipGenius, PowerArchiver, UltimateZip, BitZipper, Total Commander, Netzip, Info-ZIP UnZip

Been around forever, great compression and solid performance. I don't think I've ever had a crash or problem with it.

    "Not worth the money"

    October 1, 2005  |   By Bormann

    Version: WinZip 9.0 SR-1

    Pros

    Good program.

    Cons

There are free programs available that will handle .zip, as well as other types of files, such as .rar, just to name one, which is apparently becoming more popular. Thus, I wouldn't pay $29.00 for this one.
