"This is an absolute RIP OFF. BEWARE: MALWARE. (TRUTH)."

    February 24, 2014  |   By aafreimann

    Version: WinZip 18

    Pros

This is supposed to be SHARE-WARE, as it's always been. It's malware that takes control of 100% of EVERYTHING on your computer, making it IMPOSSIBLE to un-install, trying to FORCE YOU TO PURCHASE IT (which, to me, means that it is CLEARLY not a good-enough product to merit honest purchases that are not STRONG-ARMED by the extorting creators/marketers. Shameful, disgusting, abhorrent unethical business practices make me SICK. Please do NOT make the mistake of downloading this, it will RUIN YOUR LIFE.

    "Good company gone bad"

    January 31, 2014  |   By fsarver

    Version: WinZip 18

    Pros

Use to be top of the line company. Now they are just after your money

    Cons

This was once the top of line company and the goto for anything zip file related. But now it is using shady practices and tricks to try get money out of people. I will never install their products again and Cnet needs to put a warning on page about this stuff it trys to install. To many of the downloads on CNET try to install other useless or shady software on your pc. CNET should put a stop to this practice.

    Summary

use to be great but it went to their head I guess. All they are after now is your money.

    "Ripoff - should be free"

    January 30, 2014  |

    Version: WinZip 18

    Pros

    None none none

    Cons

$26 to unzip a file? That's more than I paid for the operating system.. Get 7zip, it's free and works better

    Summary

    An overpriced waste of money

"Do not Install it hijacks browser."

    January 30, 2014  |   By heimdal77

    Version: WinZip 18

    Pros

There is no pros about this.

    Cons

DO NOT INSTALL! This installs AVG secure search without giving a obvious means of opting out. Once on it is harder to remove than many spyware programs. Ended up having download a separate program just to get rid of it and removing it deleted all my bookmarks as it reset browsers to default. On top of that every time you start it up it switches around the buy now and try trial version buttons to try and get you to hit buy now.

    Summary

"Not even REMOTELY worth your money"

    January 18, 2014  |   By TheAlas.com

    Version: WinZip 18

    Pros

It has a nice icon. It's relatively easy to uninstall.

    Cons

There are lots but my main concern was very poor performance and instability. It doesn't utilize modern processors like (FREE) open source archivers do. It often hangs for up to several minutes while other archivers do not. Startup time is extremely slow, it is smallest and yet among the slowest of programs on my (very high end) PC. It has a clustered (albeit configurable) interface - it's a simple archiver but it's got more buttons than Cesna aircraft. Finally, it costs 29.99$ - 20 years ago this program was worth $29.99, but that was 20 years ago, not much change featurewise. It is like charging $400 dollars for a Super Nintendo.

    Summary

I gave this app a proper test and it simply failed to deliver. It is worthless. For me it's not even worth $0 dollars let alone $29. After a month worth of test I happily went back to 7-zip and experience is like going back to 2013 Toyota after driving a 1991 VW Golf. I'd like to give WinZip guys some hints but how can I when I'm pretty sure they're not even using WinZip themselves. The only ones who pay for this stuff are the mislead and/or misinformed ones. Again, it

    Updated on Jan 18, 2014

I hit the submit button too early, actually wanted to give 3 stars but it doesn't make much difference. Again, the main problem was its main functionality - compressing and decompressing. Compared to its competitor 7-zip it unfortunately failed. For the money it asks, it should be fastest and simplest app by far but it's not and the extra features don't make up for it. I used to love it a decade ago but it just seems like a complete waste of money now.

"Fraud!!! Everything attempts to up sell for $200+"

    January 4, 2014  |   By Tony Salso

    Version: WinZip 18

    Pros

    NONE Fraud!!!

    Cons

WinZip System Utilities Suite is designed to force you to make calls to their tech support (somewhere in India or thereabouts), which tries to sell their computer protection support $200/1yr; $250/2yrs; $300/3yrs. Initial password didn't work, make phone call, get pitch for service contract. Malware checker database needed updating, but would not go to internet; so I make another call, and another attempt at fraud with sales pitch, wanted to run PC Tools on my computer. This is while actively on my machine. I cut that dude short and disconnected. I believe that the program is designed to be problematic so as to make you make that call, then the sales pitch. If they don't give me a refund, I'll go through AE for a claim.

    Summary

The killer...Corel owns WinZip. Be warned! there will never be another Corel product in this home!

    Pros

There is nothing good to say about this software.

    Summary

CNET should not post such malicious software.

"Nice "Bait and switch". Wish I could give ZERO stars..."

    November 10, 2013  |   By HermanMellvil

    Version: WinZip 18

    Pros

I guess it works pretty well.

    Cons

Winzip's latest tactic, a classic "bait and switch", is to pop up a window when the user starts up their paid-for, fully licensed 14.0 version offering a "FREE update to licensed users to 14.5" .

But don't click the download link because if you do, they download a trial version of 17.5, install it, wiping out your existing winzip version. That wouldn't be so awful except the trial version they install expires after using it one time, then they demand you buy a new license for $40 or so.

Oh, and did you want to go back to 14.0? well, wait a day or so and they might respond to your email requesting your old install code and a download link - there's no phone support and their registration lookup function won't find the email address you had registered the previous version with, it least it didn't find mine.

Lame product, lame company, lame customer service.

    Summary

Just say no. There are too many free, better and both better and free options.
