This helpful folder-locking tool is simple to operate, but it could use a better manual for novice users. Except for the simple Options and password dialogs, WinSesame is operated though your context-click menu. Our testers found that the program wasn't friendly to first-time users, but the learning curve isn't steep, and most users should quickly master the program.
Locking and encrypting a folder is a mere matter of right-clicking on it and choosing WinSesame Lock. You just have to enter a password twice and the folder is locked down. Attempting to open the folder displays a password dialog that our testers couldn't bypass. Shortcuts to files in locked folders simply fail to find the file. Users who just want a minimum of security can easily set an option to use the same saved password for all locked folders.
We liked that the passwords are not limited in length or type. The very security conscious can add another level of protection that limits folder decryption to their original computer. This freeware version is limited to only small folders. Users wishing to use this program on a typical system will have to pay for the unrestricted version. Still, WinSesame is a strong, useful folder-encryption and locking tool that proves easy to use after some initial work.
From Aragon Soft:
WinSesame is the security software to password protects folders on hard disk, network, CD, and external drives on Windows computers. Protect your data from unauthorized access on your hard disk, CD-Rom, external drives or for the transfer by Internet of complete and confidential files and folders. The data contained in the locked folder is encrypted by an absolutely unbreakable process and the length of the password is not limited. To close the folder again, it's unnecessary to enter the password because this remains associated with this folder although not readable in the computer. Moreover you can close and lock with only one clicks all the protected files and folders you have opened on your computer.
No problem with this program be sure to download the current version.
This topic talks about winsesame 7.1 The current version is 10.1. This program was rebuilt at least 3 times since this topic was published with lot of improvement. Be sure to download the current version. There is no bug in the current version.
after installing, you get "options", and "winsesame lock all". but the interface is so poorly designed, and the english is confusing, you'd have no idea how to proceed. selecting "windsesame lock all" yields nothing, only some program running on the background. Don't waste time.
It either tells you there is insuffiient memory (in French....) or it says the folder is too large and you need to buy a copy... Absolute waste of time. No uninstall program
It either tells you there is insuffiient memory (in French....) or it says the folder is too large and you need to buy a copy... Absolute waste of time. No uninstall - have to do it through Control Panel. and then manually delete the menu options and folder in Program files - I guess my registry is now full of WINSESAME stuff...
