After buying WinZip out of guilt several years back, I then found I had to pay for an upgrade. Instead I looked around and found WinRAR. I tested it for and bought a license.
Cons
I have alot of zip files, so I don't like the bright bulky books WinRAR leaves all over. It's pretty when it's one or 2 but thats it. Also WinRAR should make it's own window like winzip does.

It handles RAR and ZIP formats (as well as a bunch of others) and you also get versions for platforms like PocketPC thrown in. The updates and features I actually want.

I don't use any compression or condensing programs that WinRAR can't handle. It's also very fast.

Needs to automatically associate with most of capable files and THEN ask for confirmation.

I don't use it for anything very complicated, so to me it really has no advantages over WinZip

I don't like the look of it or the constant popups saying to buy it, even though it still works without paying. For some reason my WinZip evaluation period seems neverending, and I much prefer it's look, so I think it's better.
