"disappointed"
Version: WinNc 4.4d
Pros
Clean, uncluttered screen.
Easy to copy current path to clipboard.
Good filtered view of large directories (but see cons). Icon bars easy to customize (but hard to make customizations stick).
Cons
I recently purchased Winnc.net and am very disappointed.
- It has frozen my XP system several times
- Once I deselected file X, selected file Y, clicked on PROPERTIES, and ended up with properties of file X instead of Y
- I wanted to filter out files that began with an underscore, but specifying the string "_*" in the Exclude field of the filter produced no change in the file list
- It doesn't seem to be possible to drag and drop files into a directory that's in the same pane as the files (trying to reorganize a directory, so I created several subdirectories within it, then tried to drag sets of files from that directory into the subdirectories) - Simple thing I thought. Even Windows explorer lets you do it. But WinNc.net does not.
- There's no batch rename feature
- Switching to "Tree" view resets focus to the root directory of that drive, instead of keeping it on my current location within that drive.
- The web site's "contact us" area doesn't provide an email address
- Emails that I sent have gone unanswered (well, 3 out of 4 anyway)
- I can't seem to make my "customizations" stick. I create my own icon bars, adjust their size and position, "save" the configuration, and each time I start up WinNc.net I have to reload the configuration
- In order to see or modify a file's properties (ie, things like "Artist" for an MP3), I need to use Window's right-click function)

"A formidable advisary for any Windows Commander"
Version: WinNc 4.1d
Summary
Wow... 've been using the WinNc tool since early versions and i must say it's improving greatly. The incorporated FTP-client, File-viewer, quick and easy keyboard shortcuts as well as the integrated MP3 rip- functionality keep this piece of software in my top5 list for any new installation!
Features included in the newer releases (that i actually use) include:
- fully customisable toolbars
- multithreaded file access
- integrated RAR (compressed file) functions
- integrated image viewing
- direct CD (or WAV) to MP3 encoding functions
and many more!
Keep up the good work Dunes! -
