When files are too big to transfer efficiently, people often turn to compressed file formats, like ZIP, to make the files more manageable. Another option, however, is to split files into multiple pieces. WinMend File Splitter is an easy-to-use program that lets users do exactly that, as well as reassemble files that have been split. It may not be the best option for everyone, but those who are interested in file splitting should find that it meets their needs just fine.
The program's interface is attractive and easy to navigate, with its two major features--splitting and merging--arranged in separate tabs. To split a file, users simply select the file, choose an output location, and decide whether they want to split the file into a certain number of blocks or into blocks of a certain size. The program then quickly splits the file and deposits the blocks in the desired location. We had mixed results when using the program's merging feature to reassemble split files; it worked just fine with a Word document, but it couldn't seem to handle a JPEG. We have no idea if we did something wrong or if WinMend File Splitter just doesn't support certain file types; there's no Help file to offer any direction, which is the program's only major drawback. Presuming that the program works with the types of files you want to split and merge, it's a great choice. But if things don't work out quite as you planned, don't expect any guidance.
