"Best alt-tab replacement I have used."

by CableguyTK on August 5, 2006

Pros: The best part of this was that it was last updated in 2004. Some might call this bad since it indicates a slow update schedule. But for this type of software, one which requires a heavy duty machine to run this software, its good. It means it was designed for high powered computers of 2 years ago...and today, normal computers smoke the high powered computers of 2 years ago. So this program should be very fast for anyone. Compare against TopDesk, Entbloess, TaskSwitch Pro, etc. which are built for high powered computers of TODAY. LOL.

    It is very fast.

    Setup is quite easy.

It includes an exclusion list, something that EntBloess and TopDesk do not. I guess if you dont want to see a movie in WMP showing up in the program you can tell it not to.

Cons: Its not free, but its not terribly expensive either. Its cheaper than TopDesk, but a buck more than EntBloess.

Here is why I think WinGlance is the best:

It is practically the same program as TopDesk and Entbloess, but it is much faster and easier to use than both of those programs...and it is quite a bit more responsive than both. And then there are programs which are like TaskSwitch Pro, which is mentioned by one of the other reviewers. Im not a big fan of TaskSwitch Pro. Its a pretty big install, and its slower than the default alt-tab interface, and slower than WinGlance...besides the fact that its not interactive like WinGlance is.

I mean, alt-tab replacement is one area of Windows which isnt a necessity to fool around with...the default alt-tab interface works fine and doesnt need a paid upgrade. However if you are looking for something similar to the Mac Expose type feature, WinGlance, TopDesk and EntBloess are where its at. (Mac Expose is Mac's answer to Windows Alt-Tab). I think in terms of interface, as far as mimicing Mac, you would be better off with TopDesk or EntBloess, but in terms of speed you will want to stick with WinGlance.
