I am a computer technician and I use this software as part of my clean-up and optimisation routine on an almost daily basis. It helps keep machines running with stability and efficiency. I have used this software on literally hundreds of computers in many different environments. I have NEVER had a single problem with it. I am grateful to the programmers for helping me do my job well. There appears to be a long and concerted smear campaign going on in this comment space. My guess is there is some pathetic competitor, a no-talent mediocrity, looking to tear down a great product rather than improve their own. They can keep changing their email addresses but we're not fooled. The only talent you pathetic haters have is for negativity.

I like this software because its so simple and it works. Again like you may have heard, I don't understand why there's so much negative feedback. I've never had a problem with this software, and I use it regularley.
Cons
The only thing I can think of is that the software doesn't really show details of what was defragged or much more statistics.

After running this software it said my registry was 17% fragmented. So I defraged the registry with no ill effects. In fact I noticed a marked increase in the speed of my computer afterwards. So I really don't understand why other people are having such a problem with this tool. How I use it is first I run the Advanced Disk Cleaner from Innovative Solutions (I recomend this product) to clean any garbage files, then I use my registry cleaner (Wise Registry Cleaner, another great product) After that I run the RegDefrag if the program recomends it. The Interface is very simple. Just a couple of mouse clicks and your done.

You must close all running apps. including thoes in your system tray to be on the safe side.

Cons
It created a stop error on Windows 2003 R2 Server and XP Pro SP2. It trashed the registry. I had to restore a backup registry on both platforms. All products this company makes are bad news!! BAD BAD! JUST EVIL! - In One Word: DONT DO IT!

easy to use and fast. I'm a technician and use this software on a regular basis and I have yet to experience any problems with it. For some reason this product has earned a lot of unwarranted negative feedback. I can only think it's a dishonest and orchestrated attack from a competitor. Have a look at the "Was this review helpful?" numbers and you'll realise just how unreasonably skewed they are. You would hope that Download.com take steps to prevent this kind of gutter tactic.

Deleted necessary registry entries for Internet Explorer 7. Even though I created a recovery point before making changes, I still have to reinstall my OS. Stay away from this software. The following message from Micro$oft when trying to run IE7: "Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk."

"What's up with all the 'not helpful' votes..?"

Something seems amiss here: why are there such an excessive number of 'not helpful' votes on the 4-5 star reviews? 8 of 639 users found a review helpful?? I mean, really. Seems like someone is out to knock this software off the site.
That said, I downloaded this and Free Registry Defrag 2.3. I ran Free Reg first and it did the trick (compacted down to 2% fragmentation). I then ran WinASO RegDefrag to see if it'd find the same result, and it did -- 2.8% registry fragmentation, with a recommendation to do nothing. The interface is much nicer than Free Reg too.
Cons
I didn't run the defrag step as it advised me against it, so I can't give this 5 stars without knowing how well it performs that step. But seems like it did everything else right.
