"it had promise, but it has been completely useless."
Version: WhoCrashed 3.03
Pros
the very first time you run it, it gives some very good information about what might be causing your system to crash.
Cons
i have been using this for a year now on several different system and run it perhaps 40 times. every single time, without fail, it gives the exact same advise. that its probably a software bug and not a hardware problem. great, i knew that before. it can never identify the driver, but it will make a guess (yeah, the one mentioned in the blue screen, gosh)
Summary
Bug check description: This indicates that Microsoft Windows or a kernel-mode driver accessed paged memory at DISPATCH_LEVEL or above.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver which cannot be identified at this time.
This tool is useless. You will probably have more success asking your elderly grandmother for advise on how to debug your system. -
"Good post-crash analysis tool"
Version: WhoCrashed 3.03
Pros
Clear, concise reports, and base info on causes
Cons
Could have more info on files that caused the crashes, and better links for updating the culpable drivers
-
"Extremely Useful"
Version: WhoCrashed 3.03
Pros
Simple to install and use. Vital for pinning down the cause of 'random' crashes.
Cons
You have to know what you are doing for the output to be useful. Only useful when the computer is badly misbehaving and if the computer fails in a reasonably controlled way, with a system dump.
Summary
A very useful tool when things go badly wrong. It can highlight dodgy system drivers and - once you recognise the pattern - failing RAM.
